The Allman Betts Band, formed by Devon Allman (son of Gregg Allman) and Duane Betts (son of Dickey Betts), are direct descendants of the Allman Brothers Band. Their latest performance in Japan is captured in a superb original recording, and this ultimate edition is set with an equally fantastic coupling!
The Allman Betts Band has returned to Japan for the first time in two years. Let’s take a look at their tour schedule.
March 16, 2026: Osaka 1st Stage & 2nd Stage
March 18, 2026: Yokohama 1st Stage & 2nd Stage
March 19, 2026: Tokyo 1st Stage & “2nd Stage” (←★This production★)
This release features the 2nd Stage performance from the Tokyo concert on March 19, 2026. In other words, it’s the final performance and culmination of this Japan tour.
And to get straight to the point, this recording is an ULTIMATE high-quality stereo audience recording that will blow your mind! Unlike the smartphone-shot videos uploaded to YouTube, this is our original recording, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s absolutely superb! It boasts an impressive lineup of 3 guitars, 1 bass, 1 keyboard, and 2 drums, and the twin drums in particular faithfully recreate their fathers’ band, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, but it goes without saying that you can hear every single instrument and ensemble in vivid detail. The multiple guitars come through cleanly from both the left and right channels, almost like a soundboard recording, and the entire range from low to high frequencies is recorded perfectly without a single omission, making it feel as if you are literally watching the band perform live right in front of you.
And above all, the setlist was fantastic! As you know, THE ALLMAN BETTS BAND carries on the legacy and tradition created by their fathers, and their selling point is that they perform both their original songs and songs by THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. As you can see from the tracklist, half of the setlist performed that day consisted of songs by THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND! The three consecutive songs starting with “Blue Sky” were breathtaking, and “Dreams,” which boasted a performance of about 20 minutes, was a jam session where the members’ solos were exchanged as if they were having a conversation through their instruments! In addition, Devon Allman’s vocal quality is very similar to that of his father, Greg, and Johnny Stachella’s slide guitar has a magnificent sound and phrasing that can be likened to both the power of Duane Allman and the delicacy of Derek Trucks. You could even say that this is beyond the realm of a cover.
And their original songs are of superb quality. Devon takes the lead vocals in the Allman Brothers Band cover section, but Duane Betts handles lead vocals on the four original songs. In addition, he is the main guitarist for the first three songs of the live performance. Every song is in no way inferior to the Allman Brothers Band’s masterpieces, and the seamless transition from the initial spark of the live show to the cover section in the second half is brilliant. As a side note, it was revealed the day after the Tokyo performance that the 1968 Stratocaster Devon played for the first three songs was the same one that Jimi Hendrix used when he performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
Furthermore, “Shinin'” was performed in the latter half of the live show, sandwiched between songs by The Allman Brothers Band, which added to the pressure. The intro guitar phrase, reminiscent of Clapton’s “Motherless Children,” is fantastic, but the solo battle between the three guitarists, Devon, Duane, and Johnny, in the latter half of the song is on a divine level, and this title might be a good opportunity to listen to their two previous original albums.
And finally, the show concluded with another performance of their fathers’ classic, “Midnight Rider.” Performed amidst a standing ovation, there could be no song more fitting for a celebration. The ultimate tribute to rock, blues, folk, country, soul… it all comes together here. The recording even includes the announcement of the show’s end, but after experiencing it all, any rock fan would surely want to hear more. It was truly a magnificent performance.
So this title isn’t over yet! Not only can you enjoy their latest performance in Japan with superb sound quality, but this release also comes with a DVD featuring a complete, professionally shot recording of their headlining performance on the Field of Heaven Stage on the third and final day of Fuji Rock Festival 24 two years ago!
This professionally shot video was filmed using the latest digital equipment just two years ago, so the picture quality is superb and the audio is perfect stereo soundboard quality! The setlist is also approximately 95 minutes long, making it a truly immersive experience. The highlight here is the three THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND covers: “Blue Sky,” “Midnight Rider,” and “Dreams.” On this day, brass instruments have been added to the arrangement, so it would be interesting to compare it with the performance from March 19, 2026, which is included on the CD.
Furthermore, this Fuji Rock performance was a particularly special moment for Japanese Allman Band fans, as Dickey Betts had passed away just three months earlier, making it a moment to commemorate him. In addition, Gregg Allman’s grandson, Orion Allman, joined them on keyboards for the final two songs of the set, “Pale Horse Rider” and “Dreams”! The strength of the family bond was truly moving.
This set includes a CD capturing the final performance of their latest Japan tour in the finest possible recording quality, and a DVD featuring a complete, professionally shot video of their moving performance two years ago. This ultimate edition showcases THE ALLMAN BETTS BAND not merely as a band of fame, but as legitimate successors backed by skill and identity. A must-have for all Allman Brothers fans!
