★UPGRADE! Super high-quality soundboard!
Robin Trower, having left his former label Chrysalis, embarked on a new chapter as a trio during the ‘BEYOND THE MIST’ era. Now, a soundboard album that could be considered the complete version of that period has been released.
This album contains a recording of the “Milwaukee concert on June 28, 1985,” specifically a stereo soundboard recording. ‘BEYOND THE MIST,’ a mix of studio and live recordings, was both produced and released in 1985. What was the position of this particular album within that context? Let’s explore this by examining the band’s activities at the time.
– February 7th-27th: US #1 (10 shows)
– March 11th-17th: US #2 (3 shows)
– March 26th (?): Official ‘BEYOND THE MIST’ release
– June 14th-August 3rd: US #3 (18 shows) ←★HERE★
《October: ‘BEYOND THE MIST’ release》
– October 11th-12th: US #4 (2 shows)
– October 25th-November 28th: US #5 (17 shows)
[FM soundboard recording from the same period as BEYOND THE MIST]
This is Robin Trower in 1985. He spent almost the entire time on tour in America, but the live tracks for ‘BEYOND THE MIST’ were recorded at the Marquee Club in England. The date is given as “April,” but the tour date is “March 26th.” It’s a bit unclear, but in any case, this Milwaukee performance was recorded while ‘BEYOND THE MIST’ was being made, but before its release. It was the fifth concert of “US #3.”
This show was broadcast live on local station WQFM and has become a classic, spawning numerous re-releases. This release is the ultimate version, compiled from the best master tapes. The source is the original cassette tape recorded at the time of the live broadcast. The sound is truly “official quality.” Not only is there no sign of dubbing, but the tape must have been preserved exceptionally well, as there is absolutely no sign of deterioration over time. Because it’s an unedited broadcast, it’s far more raw than “BEYOND THE MIST,” but the sound quality itself is in no way inferior.
[The definitive version of BEYOND THE MIST, 100% authentic] This album,
with its completely official-quality sound, depicts a scorching hot stage that could be described as “the 100% authentic version of BEYOND THE MIST.” You can enjoy a much larger repertoire than the 7-track version of ‘BEYOND THE MIST.’ Let’s take a look at the comparisons here.
●Soulful Guitar (5 songs)
– Too Rolling Stoned (★) / Day Of The Eagle (★) / Bridge Of Sighs / Lady Love (★) / Little Bit Of Sympathy (★)
●Others (4 songs + 6 songs)
– Beyond the Mist: Keeping A Secret / Beyond The Mist / The Last Time / The Voice
– Others: Into Money (★) / The Ring (★) / Daydream (★) / Rock Me Baby (★) / Time Is Short / Islands (★)
*Note: Songs marked with “★” were not included in ‘BEYOND THE MIST’.
…And that’s how it is. While the official album has 7 tracks, this one has a total of 15. Moreover, 9 of those tracks are repertoire that wasn’t on the official album, making it truly a complete version. “The Last Time” and “Keeping A Secret,” which were studio recordings on “BEYOND THE MIST,” are also live versions here.
Perhaps fueled by the broadcast, their performance was incredibly passionate. The way they interwoven four new songs with their golden classics was very refreshing, and the classics were elevated by the stage energy. “Daydream” unfolded into a magnificent performance lasting over 13 minutes. They perfectly conveyed the essence of Troyer in 1985, returning to their roots with a trio formation.
While “BEYOND THE MIST” was a mixed album of 7 studio and live tracks, this release allows you to experience the entire 15-track full show in perfect, official-quality FM soundboard recording. In other words, it’s the true essence of “Robin Trower in 1985” that the official album didn’t show. The freshness of the best master, created from the original cassette, allows you to experience the pleasure of having that tone and touch poured into your brain. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
★A stereo soundboard recording of the “Milwaukee concert on June 28, 1985.” This is a top-of-the-line release based on the original cassette tape of the classic live FM broadcast, offering a much longer, full-length show compared to “BEYOND THE MIST,” despite being from the same period. “The Last Time” and “Keeping A Secret,” which were officially studio recordings, can also be enjoyed in a live version with completely official-quality sound, making this an absolute must-have.
