★UPGRADE
The legendary film “Pink Floyd at Pompeii” is being re-evaluated as the 4K restored version is about to be released in theaters. The “original 70’s version”, which has reigned supreme, will be released on 2CD! It will be released on a press CD that will forever preserve the original design.
This work includes two “PINK FLOYD: LIVE AT POMPEII” albums produced in the 1970s. Both are different versions from the latest 2025 version and the current 2016 version, and have been meticulously digitized from the best existing sources. Let’s introduce each one individually.

●DISC 1: Theatrical release stereo mix (1974 version)

”LIVE AT POMPEII” was first released at the Edinburgh Art Festival in September 1972. However, due to various circumstances, it was not released to the public until 1974, after waiting two years. It is known that the “1972 original version” and the “1974 theatrical release version” have different screening times, but the live audio mixes were also very different. This work is a CD of these two versions from a unique best master that is not available from the Internet.
First, DISC 1 contains the “1974 theatrical release version.” This is the stereo mix that is most widely known, having been released on various video software such as VHS and laser discs in the 1980s and 1990s. This version is considered the “best Pompeii” by enthusiasts (the 2025 remix version released this year is excluded because it is unknown). Of course, a DVD version in 2002 and a box version of “THE EARLY YEARS 1965-1972” in 2016 were released after that, but they were poorly rated because the stereo version was forcibly converted to 5.1ch or the remix was poorly done. After all, for over 50 years, people have been saying, “It’s the 1974 version after all.”
Moreover, this is the best version of the album. Since the 1990s, CDs have been released using VHS Hi-Fi audio tracks, but this version uses a 1989 Japanese laser disc and transfers the 16bit/44kHz PCM audio directly without analog. The existing 1974 stereo mix has been precisely converted to a CD without the noise typical of VHS. In addition, the intro and other parts missing from the video release version have been supplemented with 4ch tape audio.

●DISC 2: Original Mono Mix (1972)

The replacement DISC 2 is the “1972 original version.” As mentioned above, this is the version that was shown at the Edinburgh Art Festival in 1972 and also broadcast in Japan on the Young Music Show in 1973.
This film is also known for being included on the official DVD in 2002 as the “1972 original film”, but the essential audio was replaced and not included. The true best is the 1981 Betamax version, which was also the first to be released in the UK. This time, we have used an extremely rare, top-quality Beta copy, which has been carefully digitized using specialist equipment. This is the first time it has been released on CD in high quality.
The key point of this “1972 original version” is the mix. It’s not just mono, but the fundamental mix is different, and some of the takes are also different. The difference is clear from the beginning. The “1974 theatrical release version” builds up the atmosphere with a heartbeat that could be said to be the prototype of Speak To Me, and then moves on to live performance, but the “1972 original version” has no heartbeat at all, and starts with a quiet slide guitar.
The performance itself is also different. The obvious examples are around 11:30 in “Echoes Part 1” and “Sunshine Hymn”. The 1974 version features Roger’s double vocals, but only the live voice from the single. As you can see, the 1974 version has a lot of overdubs, while the 1972 version is very simple. Although the 1974 version is more complete as a musical work, the 1972 version is more realistic as a pure live album.
The 1974 theatrical release version, which has been considered the “best Pompeii” for half a century, and the 1972 original version, which is a vivid live album. This is a two-disc set that revives both of them with the highest quality from the best source. This press 2CD will tell the story of two masterpieces from the 1970s that are destined to disappear and will not be reissued in the 2025 restoration project. Please enjoy the true legendary sound to your heart’s content.
[Remastering notes]
*Except for the 4ch mix used for the patch on Disc 1,
the source is a unique source that is not an internet source. *Disc 1 is a direct transfer of the PCM audio from the Japanese LD version released in 1989, without analog conversion.
*Disc 2 is a careful transfer of the normal track audio from the rare UK video version released in 1981.
*The high pitch of the PAL speed on both sources has been perfectly corrected.
*This is the first CD release of the original mono mix of the 1972 release version, which has a completely different mix throughout.

★The 70’s version of the legendary film “Pink Floyd at Pompeii” is now available on CD. DISC 1 is the “1974 theatrical release stereo version”, considered the best version by enthusiasts, and DISC 2 is the realistic “1972 mono version” with a completely different mix. Both are the highest quality versions digitized from the best existing sources, and are cultural heritage albums that will not be reissued even in the restoration project in 2025.
