Description
Live at Arco Arena, Sacramento, CA, USA 2nd December 1989 PERFECT SOUND This CD
features a complete recording of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s legendary US tour in 1989, supporting the album “GUITAR SHOP,” specifically the December 2nd Sacramento performance, captured in ultra-high-quality audience recording for approximately 73 minutes.
Recorded in the highest possible sound quality for its time, this album allows you to enjoy Jeff’s guitar, drums, keyboards, and all other musical sounds with an ideal sound balance and excellent separation. If it weren’t for the crowd noise between songs, you might mistake it for a soundboard recording; the sound quality is truly comparable to a line recording. The guitar playing, recorded with an ultra-clear sound that seems to leap out of the speakers, is breathtaking, and you can enjoy his ever-changing tones and unique playing style with the most realistic sound image possible.
This recording is from the final stages of their US tour, and after more than a month of touring, the band’s ensemble and combination are tightly put together, making each song incredibly enjoyable to listen to. This period was unique in Jeff’s long history as it featured a bass-less lineup (the keyboardist also played bass), and the band combination of Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas, who precisely supported Jeff, is superb. You can fully enjoy the charm of this trio performance, which was unique to this period.
“People Get Ready” is an instrumental arrangement where the guitar and keyboard brilliantly share solos; this performance, unique to this tour, is superb. In the final song, “Goin’ Down,” you can hear the legendary collaboration with Stevie Ray Vaughan. The audience’s excitement at this point is tremendous, and in the middle of the song, you can enjoy the powerful interplay of solos between the two. This high-grade title, recorded in the best sound quality of the “GUITAR SHOP” tour, is set to be released as a limited edition pressed CD.
★This is a summary of the review from beatleg magazine vol. 114 (January 2010 issue). For your reference.
A pressed CD recording of the Sacramento performance on December 2, 1989, towards the end of the North American tour accompanying “GUITAR SHOP.” It is an audience recording with excellent sound quality. There are two CD-Rs of this day’s recordings: “ARCO ARENA” (POPEYE 112) and “FIRE AND FURY TOUR” (Breakdown 268). This album uses the same master, so like the previous two, the beginning of the intro to “Goodbye Porkpie Hat” is slightly missing. However, the sound quality of this album is the best, and the fact that it’s a pressed CD is also appealing. In any case, Beck’s guitar playing on this day is in top form, and he delivers a series of fantastic performances.
Terry Bozzio’s drumming at the end of Blue Wind is incredible. After Sling Shot, Beck mistakenly plays the intro to Behind the Veil instead of the next song. From December 1st, Two Rivers was added to the setlist, and all songs from ‘GUITAR SHOP’ were performed. This tour was a co-headlining tour with Stevie Ray Vaughan, with the headlining spot alternating between the two. On this day, Beck was the headliner, and Stevie appeared on stage for the final song, Goin’ Down.
