GEORGE HARRISON – RISING SUN: FINAL RECORDINGS 1988-2001 (2 CD)

Description

　This release features previously unreleased recordings from George Harrison’s final recording sessions. While many titles have previously included the broadcast version of the May 14, 1997 television show “Yin & Yang,” this release features the unedited version. From the setup and rehearsals to the main program, everything is being released for the first time.

　The latter half of Disc 1 and Disc 2 contain recording sessions from his final album, “Brainwashed.” While George composed music, he showed little interest in recording, often entrusting the final touches after recording his own parts to external engineers and musicians such as Jeff Lynne.

　This tendency is particularly evident in “Brainwashed,” a posthumous release, as it was edited and completed by Jeff Lynne and his son, Dhani. The version included in this release is untouched by external input, featuring George handling all instruments and vocals alone. All of these are previously unreleased recordings.

　A brief side note… The song credited as “Run So Far” on the album is listed as “(CAN ONLY) RUN SO FAR” on this release. Similarly, “P2 Vatican Blues (Last Saturday Night)” is simply listed as “P.2. VATICAN BLUES” on this release. These changes stem from George’s handwritten titles on the original tapes from which this album was produced. It is believed that Dhani made these changes when finishing the album after George’s death. The release also includes

　an unedited version of “YIN & YANG,” George’s last television appearance and final public performance, and a recording of his posthumous work “Brainwashed” featuring only George’s performance and vocals before any external input was added. Both are previously unreleased recordings. Finally, a rehearsal recording of “Taxman” is included as a bonus track. This is a beautifully pressed picture disc, perfect for permanent preservation.
