From CSN’s first Japan tour in 20 years, the consecutive performances held at the Tokyo International Forum on March 5th and 6th are completely recorded with astonishingly superb sound. A permanently preserved 4CD press with Japanese Obi. A
new-age matrix sound source that is an exquisitely balanced stereo mix of the multiple IEM sources used by each member on stage, each with a different balance, and the XAVEL label’s original superb audience source (MK4 Master). The ideal sound balance, which combines the thick and warm sound character of the MK4 master with the direct and excellently separated sound image of the IEM sound source, will leave all fans speechless. As expected from their positions on stage, Stills, Nash, and Crosby (from left to right) provide a beautifully separated “soulful chorus” that’s a highlight, and Stills’s guitar sound is also powerful and direct. From Disc 2 (the second part of the first day), where the IEM source stabilized, the sound quality was perfect, almost like a stereo soundboard recording. It’s incredible!
Fans of all ages and genders packed into these Tokyo shows, the perfect backing band, led by Kevin McCormick and featuring a stellar lineup of musicians, delivered a satisfying performance that evenly incorporated classic hits from each era, from Buffalo Springfield to CSN&Y. The second part of the first day also featured a delightful surprise guest appearance by Jackson Browne, who had just arrived in Japan at the same time, performing “The Crow on the Cradle.” New songs with strong messages, such as “Burning For The Buddha,” also speak volumes about the band’s continued existence, having made a name for themselves as leaders of the counterculture in the late 1960s and early 1970s. To be able to relive these amazing two days with such high-quality sound is a wonderful time.
