Description
Vault tracks recorded between 1990 and 1992 slated to appear on the planned Diamonds & Love.
That project consisted of material spanning both the Diamonds And Pearls and O(+> Albums.
Disc One 67’34
01. Uh Huh 6’28
Recorded on 7 March 1991 at Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California. The track is an upbeat blues/funk track, with lyrics promoting a positive, spiritual, mindset.
It contains samples of Ray Charles playing piano from a popular Diet Pepsi commercial from the time, and uses the drink’s slogan (also used in the commercial), “You got the right one, baby! Uh huh”, as part of the chorus.
02. I Hear Your Voice 4’26
Eighth track on Patti LaBelle’s eleventh solo studio album, Burnin’ (seventh track on the vinyl edition).
The song was written by Prince, with Rosie Gaines and Francis Jules, and was produced by Prince under the name Paisley Park. Prince also played all the instruments on the track.
Basic tracking took place on 24 April 1991 at Paisley Park Studios (with Prince guide vocals), and the song was originally intended for Rosie Gaines’s proposed album Concrete Jungle, which later developed into Closer Than Close.
03. Willing And Able (Extended 12″ Remix) 6’20
Basic tracking took place on 4 September 1990 at Warner Pioneer Studios, Tokyo, Japan.
The song evolved from a jam session, in which Michael B. began playing a drum pattern from an not well-known song by British band Rockpile.
Levi Seacer, Jr. added a bass line, and Prince began to add guitar chords.
Additional recording took place after the Nude Tour in September and later in December 1990 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
This is the longer version of the song with 30-second drum intro by Michael B., and longer background vocals by Prince instead of The Steeles.
04. The Flow 5’12
An alternate and longer take re-recorded without Rosie Gaines in November 1991 at Paisley Park Studios.
This version was recorded in sequence with Arrogance and contains additional verses that were not kept for the released version.
One of these additional verses was performed live during the Diamonds And Pearls Tour however.
05. 3 Chains O’ Gold 5’53
16th track (15th song) on Prince’s 14th album O(+>, the second album to be credited to Prince and the New Power Generation.
Basic tracking took place on 31 October 1991 at Paisley Park Studios. This is an alternate early take.
06. Rave Church Style 6’06
December 1991 re-recording. Performed at the end of each Diamonds And Pearls show since “Rave…” was built off of the groove that was played under “Push”.
07. Love 2 The 9’s 6’06
This is an alternate early take. The phrase ‘to the nines’ used in the song title, meaning ‘to the highest degree’ or ‘to perfection’, is likely Scottish in origin used for example by poet, Robert Burns.
08. With This Tear 3’51
Prince’s original recording. Written by Prince in January 1992 at Paisley Park Studios.
The song was initially intended for Jevetta Steele, but it is not known if she recorded a version of the track. It was submitted to Celine Dion shortly afterwards.
09. Goodbye 1’58
Unreleased track recorded on 31 December 1991 at Paisley Park Studios. Goodbye is an eclectic song going through multiple tempos and styles.
It features Tony M. rapping and singing the chorus (with Prince): “All fair in love and war and only love is worth dying for.”
10. Arrogance 4’59
Basic tracking took place on 27 November 1991 at Paisley Park Studios. The song contains samples from I Know You Got Soul and Niggaz 4 Life.
This is an alternate take recorded in sequence with The Flow.
11. Baby Doll 5’12
Unreleased track recorded in late April – early May 1992, at Studios 301 in Sydney, Australia, while in Sydney on the Diamonds And Pearls Tour.
More work on it was done on 23 June 1992, likely at Olympic Studios, London, England.
The lyrics were written by Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue and the track was intended for her. This is the only track known to have been submitted by Prince to Kylie Minogue.
12. Race 6’47
Basic tracking took place on 8 November 1991 at the Record Plant, Los Angeles, California (the same day as Go Go Dancer). Early and longer version of the song with Tony M. rapping.
13. 51 Hours 4’14
Original recording with Prince vocals. The music for the track was written and recorded by Australian techno producer Mark Forrester and synth programmer and engineer Angelique Cooper.
Recorded in mid-April 1992, by Lori Elle (Werner) (as ‘Diamond’) and Robia LaMorte (as ‘Pearl’), at Studios 301.
Disc Two 69’37
01. Blood Is Thicker Than Time 3’12
Original recording with Prince vocals presumably recorded on 6 May 1992. Third track on Mavis Staples’ second Paisley Park Records album The Voice.
02. House In Order 4’53
Prince version presumably recorded on 8 May 1992. Second track on Mavis Staples’ second Paisley Park Records album The Voice.
03. A 1,000 Hugs And Kisses 8.00
Original recording with Prince vocals. Originally recorded in late April – early May 1992, at Studios 301. The original version was written solely by Prince and was intended for Rosie Gaines.
A new recording of the track (more than 22 years later) named X’s & O’s was made in Autumn 2014 at Paisley Park Studios.
04. Uncle Sam 6’47
Original 1992 version with Prince vocals. While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in September 1992 at Paisley Park Studios.

Original 1992 version with Prince vocals. While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in September 1992 at Paisley Park Studios. Fourth track (third song) on Tevin Campbell’s second album I’m Ready.
06. Paris 17984302 3’44
Original 1992 version with Prince vocals. While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in September 1992 at Paisley Park Studios. Ninth track (seventh song) on Tevin Campbell’s second album I’m Ready.
This is one of two Prince-related songs named after a telephone number. The other is 777-9311 by The Time.
07. The P 3’30
Unreleased track and Prince version recorded on 13 September 1992 at Paisley Park Studios. It was intended for use on Tevin Campbell’s second album I’m Ready.
The lyrics are sexually charged, and “the P” refers to the penis; it is likely that Tevin Campbell felt the song was too sexual for his album.
08. Extraordinary 2’29
Prince version – Alternate take recorded in September 1992 at Paisley Park Studios. Originally intended for Rosie Gaines’ planned solo album Concrete Jungle.
09. Face 2 Face 5’01

14. Remember Me 3’21
Unreleased song believed to have been recorded in late Summer 1992 at Paisley Park Studios. It is not known if the track was recorded for a specific project.
