★First appearance! Super high-quality soundboard!!

Slayer, who showed their continued prowess with their final studio album, ‘REPENTLESS,’ which reached a career-high number 4 on the US charts, are getting a newly unearthed soundboard album release.

This recording captures the “March 2, 2016 Port Chester” concert, and it’s the first-ever soundboard recording of that performance. Slayer’s activities after the release of “Repentless” can be broadly divided into “2015-2017 = Album Tour” and “2018/2019 = Farewell Tour,” with this recording belonging to the former. During that time, there were many memorable events, such as the production of the official “The Repentless Killlogy” and two visits to Japan. This is a good opportunity to first take an overview of their activities at that time and then explore the position of this recording within that context.

[A brutal soundboard recording directly connected to the mixing console]
This is Slayer during the ‘REPENTLESS’ era. For about two and a half years, from before the album’s release in 2015 until the end of 2017, they continued to ravage the world with their roaring sound. In that journey, this Port Chester performance was the eighth show of “North America #2”. They had toured the US before the album’s release, but this recording is from after the release. Looking at the official ‘THE REPENTLESS KILLOGY’, this concert was 1 year and 5 months earlier.

This recording, which emerged from such a show, is a shocking first-ever soundboard recording. Unlike FM broadcasts, it’s directly connected to the mixing console, and the raw sound bursts forth without any processing or embellishment. When listening with headphones, it feels less like you “hear” it and more like it “comes into” you. It has a directness to it, as if it’s jumping directly into your brain without going through your eardrums.

Kerry King and Gary Holt’s riffs surge in like a wall of sound, Paul Bostaph’s kicks hit you right in the gut, and the snare drum hits you right in the viscera. Tom Araya’s roars feel like they’re tearing through your skull from the inside, like Kenshiro striking your vital points—the immersive sound is so intense it almost feels like you’re hallucinating. Because it’s a soundboard directly connected to the console, Slayer’s lethal power is laid bare. It’s of a quality that could be released as an official product, yet it possesses a rawness that you wouldn’t find in an official release. It’s truly a masterpiece that could be called “official-level unearthed material.”

[A full show different from the official THE REPENTLESS KILLOGY]
This direct-hitting sound delivers a devastating setlist featuring everything from early hits from the Metal Blade era to new songs from ‘REPENTLESS’. Finally, let’s summarize by comparing it to the official ‘THE REPENTLESS KILLOGY’, which is symbolic of the tour.

●Classics (12 songs)
– Metal Blade era: Chemical Warfare / Hell Awaits / Black Magic (★)
– Rain in Blood: Postmortem / Raining Blood / Angel Of Death
– South of Heaven: Mandatory Suicide / South Of Heaven
– Seasons in the Abyss: Born of Fire / War Ensemble / Seasons In The Abyss / Dead Skin Mask
●2000s and later (10 songs)
– God Hates Us All: Disciple / God Send Death (★) / Payback (★)
– Blood-Stained World: Hate Worldwide / World Painted Blood (★)
– Repentless: Repentless / When The Stillness Comes / You Against You / Take Control (★) / Pride In Prejudice (★)
*Note: Songs marked with “★” were not available on the official “THE REPENTLESS KILLOGY”.

…And that’s how it is. While the classics not included in the official “THE REPENTLESS KILLOGY” are intriguing, the new songs are surprisingly valuable. In particular, “You Against You,” “Take Control,” and “Pride In Prejudice” have not been performed on the farewell tour since 2019, nor on the current reunion tour. They are exclusive songs only available on the “REPENTLESS Tour.”

This is a new Slayer masterpiece that has emerged from Port Chester, a city buzzing with the first-ever soundboard recordings. The brutal sound, directly connected to the mixing console, delivers the destructive power of thrash metal to your brain without any compromise, providing an exhilarating experience. Please, let yourself be thoroughly blown away.
