Madison Square Garden, New York, NY, USA 13th & 14th September 1979 AMAZING SHOT!!!

This YouTube account posted the 8mm footage from “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1979 4TH NIGHT: SUPER 8 FILM,” which includes the incident of Pete’s injury that surprised Who fans, but it turns out that MSG was actually filmed on other days in 1979!

The previous release captured September 17th, just before the last MSG performance, but this time we unearthed the first two performances on the 13th and 14th.

Both films were shot mainly during the middle of the concert, and are excellent in quality with little of the choppy quality that is common with 8mm. The image quality, which was carefully recreated from the original film and released, is surprisingly clear. The audio is also meticulously dubbed to capture the high-quality audience, so you’ll never tire of watching it.

First of all, on the 13th, the angle is similar to the previous “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1979 4TH NIGHT: SUPER 8 FILM”, and the fashion is similar. Therefore, it is not possible to see the expressions of the members on stage, but it still perfectly captures Pete and Roger’s intense staging.

Pete, in particular, seems to be extra enthusiastic about the first day of MSG, as he stops playing guitar and starts tap dancing (!) on “Magic Bus.” The basics are very easy to see in 8mm footage, but on the first day, this scene of Pete dancing alone is worth a look.

The second day’s shot is the exact opposite angle compared to the previous day and the previous release, and is a little closer to the stage than those. What’s more, Pete’s red flannel shirt is impressive. Moreover, the band’s tension is higher than the previous day, and after finishing “Long Live Rock,” Roger and Pete even catch a glimpse of each other praising each other.

The previous day’s performance seemed to be centered around Pete, but this time, all the members seemed to be competing with each other. Perhaps the photographer had grasped the flow of the live performance the day before, but he sacrificed filming only the final part of “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” which was played in the second half, in an attempt to capture the excitement of the middle part of the live performance with the limited 8mm filming.

In fact, the members seemed satisfied with the performance that day, and they praised each other when they retreated from the stage before the encore. The highlight was after the finale, when Pete interacted with the front fans and then retreated to the wings, the scene where he and Roger praised each other harmoniously was very moving.

And the excitement for “Pinball Wizard” was incredible throughout both days, with the entire venue on its feet at both times (the angle is pulled back here), conveying a sense of realism that is well worth seeing.

The last video was a rare one that caught Pete injuring himself when he hit his guitar, but this time it’s even more valuable, capturing the literally fired-up stage in surprisingly clear images. It’s packed with the amazingness of the Who in 1979 that has been overlooked until now!
