Description
In March 1969, with new bassist Doug Youle alongside Lou Reed (vocals and guitar), Sterling Morrison (guitar and vocals), and Maureen Tucker (percussion), the Velvet Underground embarked on a tour to promote their third, self-titled album. One of the concerts took place on October 27th at the End of Cole Avenue club in Dallas, Texas, where—an absolute rarity in the New York band’s history—a professional sound engineer was commissioned to record the performance. Some of the songs captured on reel-to-reel tape during the evening appeared on the 1974 live album “1969: Velvet Underground Live,” but, being third- or fourth-generation tapes, the sound quality left something to be desired. The rediscovery of the first-generation master tapes paradoxically guaranteed a better performance for the bootlegs that subsequently appeared on the market: this unofficial reissue on two LPs by the Room On Fire label expands the setlist compared to previous editions that appeared on vinyl by fully documenting the set of 15 tracks.
