Description
The Boston Tea Party was one of the Velvet Underground’s favorite clubs, and Lou Reed in particular, who performed four times with the New York group at the legendary Massachusetts venue between late 1968 and the summer of 1969. The recording of their last concert, dating back to July 11, 1969, is of excellent quality and bears witness to the band’s raw, electrifying energy. It was released on the unofficial Room On Fire label in two LPs, each sold separately. The first LP’s setlist, consisting of five tracks, includes a couple of titles (“Jesus,” “I’m Set Free”) from their third, self-titled album, released a few months earlier, plus the classics “I’m Watching For The Man” and “Run Run Run” from their debut album, Nico, two years earlier, and “White Light/White Heat” (title track from their second album, released in January 1968). The lineup includes Reed (lead vocals and guitar), Sterling Morrison (guitar and vocals), Doug Yule (bass, organ and vocals) and Maureen Tucker (percussion).
