Description

Checkerdome, St. Louis, MO, USA 6th August 1982 STEREO SBD
The shock never stops! A completely unreleased soundboard from the “DIVER DOWN” era that has shocked the whole world is being unearthed in a new excavation series. The latest edition will be released this week with two titles at the same time!
The hybrid duo was unearthed from an unknown show where no audience recordings had ever been found. This work is a stereo soundboard recording of the “August 6, 1982 St. Louis Performance,” the latter part of the series. Recently, a string of top-quality soundboards have been released every week, and this week we have two at the same time. Some people may have started collecting midway through, so let’s start by organizing our collection and take a bird’s-eye view of our activities at the time.
●1982
{“DIVER DOWN” released on April 14th}
・July 14th – August 21st: North America #1 (26 shows) ←★here★
・September 1st – 25th: North America #2 (17 shows)
・October 7th – December 11th: North America #3 (38 shows) ←TORONTO 1982, etc.
●1983
・January 16th – February 12th: South America (15 shows)
・May 29th: US festival appearance
This is VAN HALEN in 1982/1983. The soundboard excavation rush began in 2024, and last year the “North America # 3” trilogy “WORCESTER 1982 1ST NIGHT SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 700)”, “3RD NIGHT SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 701)”, and “TORONTO 1982 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 702)” attracted attention, but this year’s epicenter is “North America # 1”. Let’s focus on the dates further.
● Details of “North America # 1”
・July 14th-23rd (7 performances)
*July 24th “BILOXI 1982”
・July 27th + 29th (2 performances)
*July 30th “LOUISVILLE 1982”
*July 31st “FORT WAYNE 1982”
*August 3rd “ROCKFORD 1982”
・August 4th: Des Moines performance
*August 6th: St. Louis performance ←★This work★
・August 7th-21st (11 performances)
… and so on. “LOUISVILLE 1982”, “FORT WAYNE 1982” and “ROCKFORD 1982” were three consecutive performances, but this work’s St. Louis performance was the 15th performance with one gap.
This work, recorded at such a show, is a direct-to-the-D soundboard with a strong, ultra-thick core that goes wild. The direct-to-the-D sound recorded directly from the mix desk is incredible, and the raw, unprocessed, unedited feeling is imprinted in your brain. The cheers are so far away that they sound like whispers, so there’s no sense of experiencing a concert at all, but when you listen with headphones, you can fully enjoy the other-dimensional sense of synchronization, as if your skull is integrated into the PA system. These characteristics are common to all works in the series, but this work is particularly distinctive, and the pleasure of completely matching the live performance of the four people with your whole body is intense.
The stage of the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” is depicted with such an ecstasy sound, with the set fixed and in full-power driving mode. This work is not a complete recording because it was recorded on one 90-minute tape, but most of the show is captured. Let’s organize the songs included here.
●Diver Down (8 songs)
・The Full Bug/Little Guitars/Where Have All The Good Times Gone!/Hang ‘Em High/Cathedral/Secrets/Intruder/(Oh) Pretty Woman
●Other (9 songs)
・Fuse of Fire: Runnin’ With The Devil/Jamie’s Cryin’/Ice Cream Man (★)
・Legendary Bomber: Dance The Night Away/Somebody Get Me A Doctor/DOA (★★)
・Other: Romeo Delight/Unchained/Everybody Wants Some!!
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are not available on the sister album “TORONTO 1982: SOUNDBOARD”. In particular, songs marked with “★★” are not available on the sister album “BILOXI 1982: SOUNDBOARD”.
…And so it goes like this. The tape ended after about two minutes of recording of “DOA” after the guitar solo. The final tracks “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,” “Bottoms Up!,” and “You Really Got Me” were not recorded.
This is difficult to do anything about, but when you actually listen to it, it doesn’t feel lacking. The reason for this is probably because the person recording it, “Roy,” has become accustomed to recording. By using 90-minute tape, there are fewer gaps in the transitions, and the transitions are quick and don’t overlap with the performance. In terms of length, it’s not as long as “FORT WAYNE 1982” or “ROCKFORD 1982,” but (perhaps because the performance is more substantial) it’s more worth listening to.
At first, the soundboard series was simply amazing, but with each release, the band’s evolution became visible. This is the latest super-thick soundboard that imprints everything from daily familiarity and tone to subtleties into your brain. Please enjoy the shock of the discovery with the Press 2CD, which will forever be remembered.

★The first appearance of the stereo soundboard recording of the “August 6, 1982 St. Louis Performance.” This is the latest in the popular soundboard excavation series, a masterpiece digitized from the original leaked master by the same people involved. The set is solidified, and it is a pleasure board that will imprint the highly skilled live performance in your brain.
