Description

Ibirapuera Gymnasium, Sao Paulo, Brazil 21st January 1983

The ultra-exquisite leaked soundboard series, which landed in South America and continues to uncover even more hidden treasures, is now available in its latest installment, the Brazil edition!

This work is engraved with the “January 21, 1983 Sao Paulo performance.” It is a stereo soundboard recording. If you’ve read this article, you may also be aware of a historic event occurring in the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” collection. Master recordings made directly from the mix desk by a man named “Roy,” who was the band’s engineer at the time, have been unearthed one after another. This is the largest soundboard rush in VAN HALEN history…no, the largest in rock archive history.

Following the recent acclaimed Venezuela edition, “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 839),” this is the second South American release. As always, let’s organize our collection by summarizing our activities at the time and examine this release’s position.

● 1982
(“DIVER DOWN” released April 14th)
・ July 14th – August 21st: North America #1 (26 shows) ← *8 shows
・ September 1st – 25th: North America #2 (17 shows) ← *4 shows
・ October 7th – December 11th: North America #3 (38 shows) ← *3 shows
● 1983
・ Date unknown “REHEARSALS 1983 SOUNDBOARD”
・ January 14th – February 12th: South America (15 shows) ← ★COCO★
・ May 29th: US festival appearance

This is VAN HALEN during the “DIVER DOWN” era. In 1982 alone, 15 soundboard albums were released. Even in 1983, the tour rehearsal album “REHEARSALS 1983 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 839)” appeared, making it a gold rush for soundboards. And the South American tour also started with the recent “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD.” Let’s focus on the dates further.

■ “South America” Details
・January 14th: Caracas performance
*January 15th “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD”
*January 16th “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD (part)”
*January 21st: Sao Paulo performance ←★This work★
・January 22nd: Sao Paulo performance
・January 23rd: Sao Paulo performance
・January 25th-27th: Rio de Janeiro (3 performances)
・January 28th-February 1st: Porto Alegre (3 performances)
・February 5th: Uruguay performance
・February 11th + 12th: Argentina (2 performances)

… and so on. Shows were also held in Venezuela (Caracas), Uruguay, and Argentina, but the main focus was on the powerhouse Brazil. A large-scale tour of 3 cities x 3 performances = 9 performances was carried out, and this work’s Sao Paulo performance was the first day of that.

This work recorded at such a show is a top-notch soundboard as usual. The first day in Sao Paulo is famous for the fact that a pro shot was left behind, but this work is completely different. It is a newly excavated soundboard that cannot be compared to the pro shot sound with rough dubbing marks, and not only is there no loud cheering like a direct connection to the table, but there is no degradation in each sound at all. It is a different dimension as if the instrument itself is vibrating inside the skull.

What was recorded by this transcendent new excavation master was a scorching stage that has finally come into its own after many experiences. While you can also hear the final part of the show that was not included in the previous work “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD”, there are also cuts (as always). Let’s organize the contents here.

●Diver Down (5 songs)
・The Full Bug/Cathedral/Secrets/Intruder/(Oh) Pretty Woman
●Other (10 songs +α)
・Fuse of Flame: Runnin’ With the Devil/Runnin’ With the Devil/Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love (★)/You Really Got Me (Happy Trails) (★)
・Legendary Bomber: Dance the Night Away/Somebody Get Me A Doctor (I’m So Glad)/Bottoms Up! (★)
・Other: Romeo Delight/Unchained/Mean Street (*)/Everybody Wants Some!!
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are songs that were not available on the previous album, “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD.” Songs marked with “*” are songs that were not included in the 1982 series.

Unlike usual, the flow of “Dance the Night Away” and “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” in the first half is refreshing. It’s a shame that the precious songs “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” and “Heartbreak Hotel,” which were the highlights of this show, are not included (!), but the pleasure of listening to the live performance of VAN HALEN in its prime for about 79 minutes is irreplaceable.

The first day of their only South American tour, the iconic show in Sao Paulo, is a newly discovered soundboard album that will inject that historic live performance into your brain. Experience the transcendent sound of a completely different dimension from the pro-shot audio with this permanently preserved press CD.

★ “January 21, 1983 Sao Paulo Performance.” This stereo soundboard recording is a completely different soundboard from the pro-shot sound of the day, and is a superb product that cannot be compared to the pro-shot audio with its rough dubbing marks. Not only are there no loud cheers, as with a direct-to-table system, but there is no degradation in each note, creating a sense of another dimension, as if the instrument itself is vibrating inside your skull. This is a new masterpiece that will inject that historic live performance into your brain.

STEREO SOUNDBOARD RECORDING

The latest release in the master leak series, “SAO PAULO 1983 1ST NIGHT SOUNDBOARD,” debuts. The limited-edition, numbered sticker included a special multi-camera pro-shot from the same show, “DIVER DOWN BRAZIL.”

VAN HALEN – DIVER DOWN BRAZIL (Bonus DVDR)
Live at Ginasio Do Ibirapuera, Sao Paulo, Brazil, January 21, 1983 PRO-SHOT.

This is a soundboard series leaked from the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour,” which has shocked the world. The main press CD is the latest release, a new masterpiece that allows you to enjoy the historic show. As mentioned in the commentary, the presence of the pro-shots was a major factor in making the first day of Sao Paulo historic. To vividly capture its significance, a special bonus video edition of the best master has also been included.

So, this work was filmed at the same “January 21, 1983 Sao Paulo performance” as the main press CD. It’s a multi-camera pro shot. This show has long been famous for being broadcast on TV, and has produced a variety of previously released shows. Being from South America in the 1980s, it’s not “official quality,” but rather a so-called “South American quality” pro shot, but this work is one of the best quality. There’s almost no unevenness or white line noise typical of video, and the edges are vivid. It’s a completely different visual beauty from the previously released group, which has become blurred due to repeated dubbing.

The quality depicted is a full show experience that could not be achieved with the main press CD. There are plenty of songs that can’t be heard even in the recently released “CARACAS 1983 (Shades 2544)”, so let’s organize them by comparing them together.

●Diver Down (6 songs)
・The Full Bug (*) / Little Guitars (★*) / Cathedral (*) / Secrets / Intruder / (Oh) Pretty Woman
●Others (15 songs + α)
・Fuse of Flame: Runnin’ With the Devil (*) / Jamie’s Cryin’ (★) / Little Dreamer (★*) / Ice Cream Man (★) / Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love / You Really Got Me (Happy Trails)
・Legendary Bomber: Dance the Night Away / Somebody Get Me A Doctor (I’m So Glad) / Bottoms Up!
・Others: Romeo Delight / Unchained / Mean Street (*) / Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers (★*) / Everybody Wants Some!! / Heartbreak Hotel (★*)
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are songs that could not be heard on the main 2-CD press. Songs marked with an asterisk (*) are not included in the South American pro-shot “CARACAS 1983.”

…And so on. There are plenty of rare tracks, including covers of ZZ TOP’s “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” and Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel,” as well as the classic “Mean Street.” Not only are they rare, but Michael also sings almost exclusively on “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers,” and Eddie’s guitar also delivers a brilliant performance. This release allows you to witness these rare performances in a multi-camera pro-shot.

What’s more, the footage allows you to fully enjoy the flashy and wild David Lee Roth. He fully demonstrates his true worth not only as a singer, but also as a performer, host, and dancer. Even standing next to Dave, Eddie, who never gives up the lead role with his numerous virtuoso skills and sharp phrasing, is at the peak of his power as a guitarist. This multi-camera pro-shot lets you watch this spectacular show from every angle…it’s just amazing.

South America was the lifeblood of HR/HM bands in the 1990s. VAN HALEN pioneered South America before anyone else, but they never returned. The Sao Paulo performance is also known as a symbol of their only South American tour. Please enjoy the superb soundboard album with the main press CD to your heart’s content.
