★A must-listen album with excellent content and sound quality
The highest quality sound board recording of the Pasadena performance on October 17, 1977, which is a super high quality sound board recording representative of early Van Halen, is now available! ! The highest quality sound board that has become a hot topic for its upper performance that sweeps away many of the same sound sources in the past. In terms of content and time, it is a decisive sound source that competes for the first and second place among Van Halen’s secret sound sources, which boast a long history! Anyway, the sound quality was good enough even in the previous release, but what you can hear on this board is the original fresh sound! The previous release was heavily limited, and although the sound was high quality, it was a mass, so in order to compensate for that weakness, the excessive sound range was appropriately reduced and appropriate remastering processing was applied, transforming it into a sound quality with a sense of separation that is just reborn. In particular, the separation of the guitar and vocals is remarkable, and the upper performance is easy to judge for any level of fan. Of course, this version is not a forced transformation of the sound, but rather a result of aiming for the “most correct” sound image, and it is the strongest one. This time, contrary to the previous release, the main live performance recorded with the highest sound quality is the main focus, and five rehearsal line recording takes are included as bonuses in the latter half of the last half. Led by the intro call, the young Van Halen’s intense performance, which is led by the intro call and then runs away, is a series of masterpieces that will remain in rock history! Four months before the official release of the first album, the set also powerfully showcases the album numbers with vivid arrangements. The way they play one masterpiece after another, relying on their youthful energy, is a masterpiece, and everyone will be overwhelmed by the tremendous persuasiveness of the sound, which is comparable to the performance of early Led Zeppelin. It is safe to say that this recording is truly “one miracle in rock history”. That is the joy of listening to it with such an upgraded sound! For rock fans, there is nothing more satisfying than this! The perfection of the sound and the most attractive performance are truly overwhelming! In the first place, the only live performance they performed after this show before their debut was the Whisky A Go Go performance on New Year’s Eve 1977, which was a performance to commemorate the completion of the album, so it can be said to be a valuable performance that recorded their final live performance as a local band. You can listen to such a live performance with such excellent sound! The only thing that can compete with this live album is Deep Purple’s “LIVE IN JAPAN”. You really have to listen to this! If you copy this amazing sound source as it is and release it as an official version, it will be “a famous live album that will remain in rock history”… In addition, five additional rehearsal takes from the day are recorded as bonus tracks. This is also a high-quality stereo line recording. The first three songs (On Fire, Voodoo Queen, Atomic Punk) are played by only three people as instruments without vocals, and the vivid line recording approaches from the speakers with the power that can not be more powerful. All three songs start off with a cut-off, but all are completed. Dave joins in the intro to Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love. On Fire also starts off, but this one is played to completion with vocals. The sound quality of this rehearsal take was originally a little muddy compared to the main live performance, but this one has also been fully equalized on this album. It has been transformed into a much easier-to-listen-to sound quality. This is the best and strongest Van Halen album that every rock fan on the planet should listen to and own!
★This is a summary of the review in Beatleg magazine vol.143 (June 2012 issue).
This recording was made in Pasadena, Pasadena, on October 15, 1977. The original recording was a high quality stereo soundboard recording, but the remastering process made the bass sound milder and the guitar sound more prominent, resulting in a clearer sound. The first album, which was released in February 1978, was recorded over three weeks from September to October 1977, so this live performance is thought to have been held just after the recording had finished. The guitar solos and choruses on the first songs heard here are all arranged close to the album takes, and the same goes for “Eruption.” The guitar sounds are fresh, but there are some parts that seem to have poor contact. The vocals are effectively echoed in some songs, and the short drum solo at the end of “Atomic Punk” is also good. “Somebody Get Me A Doctor,” which will be included on the second album, has a long guitar solo, and “DOA” has slightly different lyrics. The single “You Really Got Me,” which will be released in January 1978, was performed as an encore. It’s great to be able to listen to the best live performance with the best selection of songs just before the album debut in high quality. The bonus track “繃-繧” is a rehearsal recording from that day, and it’s also high quality. “繃-縲” is an instrumental and the vocals come in from 縺. “Voodoo Queen” is the original song for “Mean Street”. Some songs start with a cut-in and some are only played halfway through, but you can listen to valuable rehearsal recordings.
