Poliedro de Caracas, Caracas, Venezuela 15th & 16th January 1983 STEREO SBD
The first soundboard series of the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” has finally landed in South America! It will be released on a 2-CD press that will reveal the previously unknown Venezuelan performance!
This work permanently preserves two performances. It is a stereo soundboard recording of the “January 15th/16th, 1983 Caracas performance.” As those who have read this article may know, in recent years, the finest soundboards from the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” have been newly discovered one after another. Until now, the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” has only covered the first half of the North American edition, but this time it has finally expanded to South America. To understand the situation around that time, let’s first take a look at the overview of the activities at that time.
●1982
{“DIVER DOWN” released on April 14th}
・July 14th – August 21st: North America #1 (26 shows) ← *CLEVELAND 1982, etc.
・September 1st – 25th: North America #2 (17 shows) ← *PHOENIX 1982, etc.
・October 7th – December 11th: North America #3 (38 shows) ←TORONTO 1982, etc.
●1983
・January 14th – February 12th: South America (15 shows) ← ★Here★
・May 29th: US Festival Appearance
[The Caracas show date has finally been confirmed]
This is Van Halen during the “Diver Down” era. The tour accompanying the album came to a close in 1982, and 1983 was a special edition. It featured the only “South American” tour in Van Halen’s history and an appearance at the historic “US Festival.”
Of these, the Caracas performance of this work was also the first day of “South America”. However, there are various theories about this Caracas performance, and no conclusion has been reached for over 40 years. The content of this newly excavated soundboard is amazing, but it is also a new discovery that will settle the schedule issue. To start with the conclusion…
■Details of “South America”
・January 14: Caracas performance
*January 15: Caracas performance ←★Main performance★ & conventional footage
*January 16: Caracas performance ←★Bonus performance★
・January 21-February 1: Brazil (9 performances)
・February 5: Uruguay performance
・February 11+12: Argentina (2 performances)
There were three consecutive performances in Caracas, and there have been various theories, such as the “15th/16th/17th” theory and the “16th/17th/18th” theory, which has been confusing until now, but as a result of recent research and this new excavation, it has been confirmed as above. The biggest problem is that “what was previously said to be the 16th was actually the 15th.” The previous professional shot was also “actually the 15th.”
[A newly discovered leaked master that significantly updates the highest peak]
Don’t underestimate it and think, “What, is it the same day as before?” This newly excavated soundboard is completely different from the conventional pro-shot sound, and the quality is much higher. Anyone who has experienced even one of Roy’s new excavation soundboard series so far will understand, but the raw performance sound is blown out by a direct connection to the mix desk. Conventional soundboards such as pro-shots also had the vividness of South America, but they were still covered with loud cheers and processed for broadcast. This work is a completely unprocessed, ultra-direct soundboard, which can be said to be the previous stage.
And what’s even more important is the freshness of the master. After all, it was digitized directly from the master recorded on the on-site mix desk. There are no dubbing marks, and it is so fresh and vivid that it cannot be compared to conventional broadcasts.
[Extremely rare songs not included in the previous series]
Such a transcendent sound board could be enjoyed in the previous series, but this time it is a re-started “South America” tour, so the set is very different. Let’s organize the contents here.
●Diver Down (7 songs)
・The Full Bug / Little Guitars / Where Have All the Good Times Gone! / Cathedral (★) / Secrets (★) / Intruder / (Oh) Pretty Woman
●Other (11 songs)
・Runnin’ With the Devil / Jamie’s Cryin’ / Little Dreamer (★★) / Ice Cream Man
・Other: Romeo Delight / Unchained / Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers (★★) / Mean Street (★★) / Everybody Wants Some!! / Dance the Night Away / Somebody Get Me A Doctor (I’m So Glad)
*Note: Songs marked with a “★” have two takes (January 15th and 16th) recorded. In particular, songs marked with a “★★” are songs that could not be heard in the 1982 series.
…And that’s how it goes. The third performance, “January 16th,” included as a bonus, only recorded a portion of the show, and this album includes everything that exists. However, the recording part is key. The “South American” tour featured a different set from the 1982 tour, featuring “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers,” “Little Dreamer,” and “Mean Street,” which were not available on the previous leaked soundboard series. Perhaps the band’s engineer, Roy, wanted to check these changes, so he focused on recording the replacement songs. This album features two takes of each on a superb soundboard. The ZZ TOP cover, “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers,” is especially rare. It’s a signature song that was almost exclusively performed on the “South American” tour.
This is the latest in the leaked soundboard series by “Roy,” a person involved in the production of shocking works. While the quality far exceeds that of conventional professional shots, it also contains plenty of novelty that was not present in previous series. A must-listen, must-have absolute work in every sense. An urgent release has been decided for the permanent preservation press 2CD!
★ Stereo soundboard recording of the “January 15th/16th, 1983 Caracas performance.” This leaked soundboard was recorded by engineer “Roy” at the time, and is completely different from conventional pro-shot audio. The quality is incomparably excellent, and you can also enjoy the extremely rare song “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers,” which was not available in the previous leaked series.
