Description

Live at Poliedro de Caracas, Caracas, Venezuela 15th January 1983 PRO-SHOT (2Version)

43 years ago in January. Introducing the best master of the iconic pro shot that will allow you to witness the Venezuelan performance that only came once in the history of VAN HALEN.

This work contains two multi-camera pro shots born from one show. It is a two-disc set coupling two types of television broadcast masters from the “January 15, 1983 Caracas Performance (Venezuela)”. This video is one of the best pro shots from the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour”. First, let’s take a look at the show’s position while overlooking the overview of the activities at that time.

●1982
{“DIVER DOWN” released on April 14th}
・July 14th – August 21st: North America #1 (26 performances)
・September 1st – 25th: North America #2 (17 performances)
・October 7th – December 11th: North America #3 (38 performances)
●1983
・January 14th – February 12th: South America (15 performances) ←★Here★
・May 29th: US Festival appearance

This is VAN HALEN from 1982/1983. The main part of the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” ended in 1982, but a large-scale “South American” tour was realized afterwards. South America is now a major market for rock, but it was still uncharted territory in the 1980s during the Cold War. VAN HALEN was one of the first to enter the market, and the opening performance was three consecutive shows in Caracas. This is actually a big problem. There were various theories about the dates, and they had never been confirmed. However, recently, a soundboard master leaked from an insider was newly discovered (you can enjoy it on the simultaneously released “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD [Zodiac 839]”). The dates have now been revealed all at once. Let’s take a look at the true dates.

■Details of “South America”
・January 14: Caracas performance
*January 15: Caracas performance ←★This work★
・January 16: Caracas performance
・January 21-February 1: Brazil (9 performances)
・February 5: Uruguay performance
・February 11+12: Argentina (2 performances)

…And so it is. Until now, the Caracas performance pro shot has been said to be “January 16th”, but it has been revealed that “it was actually the 15th”. This work is a set of two of the highest peak masters of such classic pro shots. Let’s introduce each one individually.

[DISC 1: A long-length master capturing the full TV broadcast]
The first to appear is DISC 1, the long-length master. It’s not a full show, just a full broadcast, but you can still enjoy the precious original VH for about 70 minutes with multiple cameras. As expected, it’s a South American broadcast from a primitive era, so it can’t be called “official grade,” but the glossy screen is stunning. There’s no color bleeding or tape warping, and Dave’s flowing blonde hair and Eddie’s close-up smile are clear. Although the slightly darker screen with weak color development is a shame, the beauty of the details makes this an exceptional piece among the many “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” pro shots.

[DISC 2: A different master with beautiful, vibrant colors]
The replacement DISC 2 is a bright, colorful master with almost no color fading. Although it’s the same broadcast, the first 15 minutes (from “Romeo Delight” to “Secrets”) are missing, but the vibrant colors are completely different! Of course, this is not an unreasonable highlighting process using digital processing, but rather a beauty that comes from the natural freshness of the master. It has been said that the broadcast of the Caracas performance itself was dark, but this master proves that the original broadcast was extremely vivid.

The “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” depicted by these two excellent masters is overwhelming. There are also songs that were not recorded in the newly excavated “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD”, so let’s compare and organize them here.

●Fuse of Fire (4 songs + α)
・Jamie’s Cryin’ (*) / Ice Cream Man / Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love (★) / You Really Got Me (Happy Trails) (★)
●Other (9 songs)
・Legendary Bomber: Dance the Night Away / Somebody Get Me a Doctor / Bottoms Up! (★)
・Diver Down: Secrets (*) / Intruder / (Oh) Pretty Woman
・Other: Romeo Delight (*) / Unchained (*) / Everybody Wants Some!!
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are not available on the new pressing of the masterpiece album “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD.” Songs marked with “*” are only available on DISC 1.

With the heyday of “1984” just around the corner, the band’s potential is incredible, and having toured North America until December of the previous year, their ensemble is already polished. And above all, they’re hyped for their first South American performance! Diamond Dave is always flashy, but the excitement in this film is incredible. They’re all jumping, bouncing, dancing wildly all over the stage… which sounds like they’re always the same (wry smile), but their energy is even more intense than usual. Of course, the South American vibe they have in front of them is overwhelming, and even with camerawork that barely captures the audience, the huge crowd is apparent from the noise alone, creating a tremendous excitement.

The video itself is a valuable original VH, and it is an even more valuable, top-level multi-camera pro shot. Moreover, it is a masterpiece that allows you to witness the historic night of the only South American tour with two of the highest peak masters. Please take this opportunity to enjoy it to the fullest.

★Multi-camera pro shot of the “January 15, 1983 Caracas (Venezuela)” performance. This two-disc set combines two television broadcast masters. Disc 1 is a long master recording the entire broadcast. Disc 2 is about 15 minutes shorter, but is a bright and colorful, superb master. This is a masterpiece that allows you to witness the historic night of VAN HALEN’s only South American tour with two of the highest quality masters.
