…And so on. In addition to the two San Diego albums, the lineup also includes the two greatest peak albums, “COW PALACE 1987 2ND NIGHT (Wardour-678)” and “ROSEMONT 1987 (Wardour-637).” You can see that this is the biggest and most important leg.
This is a new masterpiece born from that fierce battlefield. Speaking of the first day in San Diego, the recording of the up-close voices is famous, but this work is a different recording. It is a master brought by the same unique route as the aforementioned “COW PALACE 1987 2ND NIGHT” and “ROSEMONT 1987,” and is truly a masterpiece worthy of permanent preservation.
Its brilliance lies in the clear, vibrant core and rich, dynamic sound. This album also sounds like an audience that has truly absorbed the enthusiasm of the band at the height of their popularity, but the performance sound completely dominates that energy. The core that penetrates the center has a driving force that reaches your ears without making you feel any distance, and after a while, the obbligato and synth ornaments are beautifully brought in.
On top of that, the dynamism created by the sound is also delicious. The spectacle of the singing voice filling every corner of the venue, the arpeggios dancing and sparkling, the feeling of pouring down. Bono’s vocals even sound as if they have become richer. Boasting a vividness and power that clearly captures even the most subtle nuances, at the same time, you can fully enjoy the inclusiveness that only an audience can have.
Such a gentle, vivid, dynamic sound is depicted on the scene of the glorious “THE JOSHUA TREE Tour.” Let’s organize the set by comparing it with the simultaneously released sister album “SAN DIEGO 1987 2ND NIGHT (Wardour-680)” and the popular press masterpiece “COW PALACE 1987 2ND NIGHT.”

While centering on “THE JOSHUA TREE” and “THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE,” the album also includes rare tracks like “A Sort Of Homecoming” and “I Shall Be Released.” “I Shall Be Released” is a cover of Bob Dylan’s work, but in fact, a week after this album, they performed with Dylan himself (you can enjoy it on our “LOS ANGELES 1987 3RD NIGHT [Uxbridge 786]”). They had performed several shows in a row since this day, so perhaps this was a warm-up for their collaboration with the legend.
Despite the recent historic masterpieces “COW PALACE 1987 2ND NIGHT” and “ROSEMONT 1987,” this album has been granted a permanent preservation press. This fact alone is enough to understand the greatness of this work. This is a new masterpiece that allows you to experience the “rich THE JOSHUA TREE Tour” with its dynamic sound. Please enjoy the 2CD press, which will never lose its brilliance.
