TUMBLEWEED ASSAULT – LP
Description
Released on the Tumbleweed Assault label, this unofficial LP contains a performance by Townes Van Zandt taken from a television program on the Austin Music Network cable network. It was January 17, 1995 when the great Texan singer-songwriter (who would die less than two years later) performed in the station’s studio, a few months after releasing his tenth and final album, “No Deeper Blue.” Alone and with his guitar, he opened the show by performing six songs in a row from the new album (and then reprising another later), drawing for the rest from his back catalog with a song from “The Nashville Sessions” (“Two Girls,” released in 1993 but recorded twenty years earlier), one from “At My Window” (1987), and two from “Flyin’ Shoes” (1978), while “The Ballad Of Ira Hayes” is a cover of a classic by folk singer Peter La Farge, also covered by Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash.
