Description

Rockin’ Bear Records releases on unofficial CD the recording of a truly special “double bill” concert: the one that saw Tom Waits and jazz pianist and composer Mose Allison perform on the stage of the WTTW television studios in Chicago on November 3, 1975: the occasion was a television show of the series “Soundstage” that the public broadcaster PBS broadcast on the following December 22. Kenny Soderblum on alto sax and Jim Atlas on double bass accompany the two after the a cappella opening of “Eggs And Sausage” punctuated only by the snapping of Waits’ fingers and slaps on the leg filmed in a real diner. It is the period of “Nighthawks At The Diner” from which the Californian also performs “Better Off Without A Wife” and “Nighthawk Postcards”, taking up several pieces (including the title track) from the previous “The Heart Of Saturday Night”; the second part of the performance is dominated by Allison, who proposes her classics such as “If You’re Goin’ To The City”, “Everybody Cryin’ Mercy”, “Your Mind Is On Vacation” and “I Don’t Worry About A Thing”
