Description
Pressed in a limited edition on double 180-gram purple vinyl and housed in a beautiful gatefold jacket, this unofficial double LP contains the recording of the splendid concert that Tom Waits gave on April 1, 1999, for the television program VH1 Storytellers in the evocative and unlikely setting of Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport. In the terminal set up like a television studio, the Pomona singer-songwriter delivered a generous set of classics (“Tango Till They’re Sore,” “Hang Down Your Head,” “Ol’ 55,” “Strange Weather,” “Downtown Train,” “Jersey Girl”) interspersed with cuts from the recent “Mule Variations” such as “Hold On,” “Picture In A Frame,” “House Where Nobody Lives,” “Get Behind The Mule,” “Chocolate Jesus,” and “What’s He Building?” The program later aired on VH1 was edited and cut for television purposes, while this release by The Vinyl Champ reproduces the entire show with Waits’ surreal spoken interludes.
