In 1974, when Richard Hell was still a member of Television, Terry Ork (Ork Records), who was then working for Andy Warhol, opened up his loft to the band as rehearsal space and provided all the necessary equipment. This upgraded edition of their earliest rehearsal recordings features improved sound quality and an expanded track list! Previously, this recording was released with a black-and-white video titled “ORK LOFT VIDEOTAPE.” The source material used here clearly outperforms the original video, featuring significantly longer recording times and a lower-quality low-frequency master recording. While the recording is a rough mono air recording, the black-and-white footage was noisy and lacked bass, while the audio is so clear that it’s immediately recognizable as a separate source. Disc 1 features complete takes, including what appears to be one of the band’s earliest performances of “Marquee Moon,” as well as “I Don’t Care,” “I’m Gonna Find You,” and “Fuck Rock and Roll,” which were not included on the Brian Eno-produced demos from the same period. Disc 2 features a guitar-only instrumental, a full take of “Poor Circulation,” and an early prototype version of “The Set Up,” which would later become Friction. Additionally, newly discovered recordings include a mono air recording of a rehearsal held in Terry Oluk’s loft in 1975, after Richard Hell’s departure! This essential recording allows fans to experience the band’s evolution.
