Description

~ A rare recording of a complete high-quality stereo audience recording of a Brighton concert in June 1984, shortly after the band added new guitarist John Valentine Carruthers! ~

This rare recording features a complete, high-quality stereo audience recording of a live performance held at The Brighton Centre, a conference center in Brighton, on June 22, 1984, shortly after the addition of new guitarist John Valentine Carruthers, who joined the band on the EP “The Thorn” released in October 1984 after Robert Smith’s departure. The recording offers a wide range, with well-balanced, stable, clear sound for both vocals and all parts. The pitch, which was off by nearly a note due to the master recording, has been carefully corrected. The setlist features five tracks from the immediately following album “Hyaena,” including the opening track “Dazzle,” and “Red Over White” from the EP “The Thorn” released that October. The Cardiff performance from the previous day can be heard on the same label’s previously released “CARDIFF 84 (TOTH2131),” a high-quality stereo audience recording, just like this one. However, “Blow the House Down” and the closing track “Switch” were not performed at the previous show. New guitarist John’s kaleidoscopic guitar work blends seamlessly into the band, making for a powerful performance that’s hard to believe he joined the band just recently. Enjoy the tracklist in high quality!
