The 1974 Santana North American tour continues its relentless stream of soundboard recording discoveries. Another superb new masterpiece has been added to this glorious collection.
This release contains a recording of the “Las Cruces concert on September 24, 1974,” in stereo soundboard format. As those who have taken the time to read this article may know, Santana in 1974 is currently a hot topic in the collector’s world, with top-quality soundboard recordings being unearthed one after another. This release is the latest in that trend. To help organize my collection, let’s first take a look at their activities. ● January 14,
1974 : Ithaca concert (release of “Lotus” in May and “Greatest Hits” in July ) July 13 – October 28: North America (62 concerts) ←★HERE★ (release of “Borboletta” in October ) November 16: Honolulu concert November 23 – December 14: Japan (16 concerts) This is Santana in 1974. A massive North American tour, comprising 62 performances, unfolded right up until their arrival in Japan at the end of the year, and soundboard recordings have been unearthed one after another from that tour. The Las Cruces performance featured in this release is right in the heart of that renowned area. Let’s take a closer look at the dates and examine their relationship to other soundboard recordings. ■ Details of “North America”- July 13th + 17th (2 performances) * July 22nd: EDMONTON 1974 SOUNDBOARD – July 24th – September 14th (20 performances) * September 15th: FRESNO 1974 SOUNDBOARD – September 17th: Phoenix performance * September 18th: LAS VEGAS 1974 SOUNDBOARD * September 20th: SAN BERNARDINO 1974 SOUNDBOARD – September 21st: Bakersfield performance * September 23rd: ALBUQUERQUE 1974 SOUNDBOARD * September 24th: Las Cruces performance ←★This release★ – September 26th – October 2nd (5 performances) * October 3rd: TAMPA 1974 SOUNDBOARD – October 4th – 28th (23 performances) [The latest installment in the collection of superb soundboard recordings] …And that’s how it is. As you can see, this Las Cruces performance was the day after the previous album, “ALBUQUERQUE 1974 SOUNDBOARD (Uxbridge 2768),” and just four days after “SAN BERNARDINO 1974 SOUNDBOARD (Uxbridge 2739),” placing it right in the heart of the famous production area.
