Description

Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 29th November 1977 STEREO SBD
The 1977 Japan tour, known as one of the most famous soundboard production periods in his career, is a new excavation master that will further enhance his collection.
This work was recorded at the “November 29, 1977: Nippon Budokan” performance. It is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of 1977 soundboards, the three-performance set “MOONFLOWER IN JAPAN (Uxbridge 433)” has become a classic, but this work is different from any of them. In order to understand the situation around here, let’s unravel the schedule for their visit to Japan at that time.

A total of 24 performances. In the 1970s, SANTANA performed a lengthy Japan tour every time they visited Japan, but 1977 was the peak year when they recorded the most performances. Just lining them up like this is impressive. Wuhan, Japan, was a highlight of the two consecutive nights. Our shop also has a popular “TOKYO 1977 FIRST NIGHT (Uxbridge 074),” but that was an audience recording on the first day. In contrast, this work is a soundboard from the second day.
This work is also a newly released master. Although the exact number of generations is unknown, it is a recently unearthed low-generation master, and it is hard to believe that it was actually a show 48 years ago. The loud cheers are far away and the mix is a lively direct-connection system, so it is a vintage soundboard that exposes the era of the equipment, but its freshness is immense. The fine details are beautifully preserved without being crushed, and while it may seem plain at first glance, listening carefully with headphones reveals the subtleties of the ensemble.
Such a newly discovered sound is depicted as a full show supported by the climax of Japanese enthusiasm. Here, let’s organize the set while focusing on the differences from the three performances of the soundboard collection “MOONFLOWER IN JAPAN”.
●Early period (10 songs)
Santana: Evil Ways / Savor (*) / Soul Sacrifice
Heavenly Guardian: Incident At Nashabur (*) / Black Magic Woman-Gypsy Queen / Oye Como Va / Samba Pa Ti (*)
Santana III: Batuka / No One To Depend On / Toussaint L’Ouverture
●Middle period (12 songs)
Amigo: Dance Sister Dance (Baila Mi Hermana) / Europa (Earth’s Cry, Heaven’s Smile) / Gitano
Festival: Let The Children Play / Jugando / The River
Moon Flower: Zulu / I’ll Be Waiting / She’s Not There / Flor D’Luna (Moonflower) / Transcendence
Oneness: Oneness
*Note: Songs marked with an asterisk (*) change daily.
…And that’s how it went. Since the set lists for all 25 shows are not known, it’s hard to say for sure, but the basic set was almost the same, with the only differences being the song order and the songs that changed each day. “Savor,” which wasn’t performed in Osaka, “Incident At Nashabur,” which wasn’t performed in Akita, and “Samba Pa Ti,” which was omitted from Nakano and Akita, were all included at Nippon Budokan.
Japan in 1977 was a rare mass-produced soundboard region in SANTANA history. This is a full soundboard of a highlight performance that further enhances its impact. This is a new masterpiece that can be wholeheartedly recommended not only to those who have loved “MOONFLOWER IN JAPAN,” but also to those who are experiencing the “MOONFLOWER Tour” for the first time. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
