Description
Virtuoso is the name of the unofficial label responsible for a series of collections dedicated to virtuosos of their instruments such as Miles Davis, Peter Green, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck and Ry Cooder. The latter is offered as an anthology of 12 songs taken from radio sessions covering the production of the 70s and early 80s: there are pieces dating back to records from the first phase of his career such as “Into The Purple Valley (Woody Guthrie’s “Vigilante Man”) and “Paradise And Lunch” (“Tattler”, the traditional “Jesus On The Mainline”) and others taken from later albums such as “Bot Till You Drop” and “Get Rhythm”. The setlist is as always a small encyclopedia of American music, ranging from old folk songs such as “How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live” to hits by Johnny Cash (the same “Get Rhythm”) and Elvis Presley (“Little Sisters”) up to contemporary songs such as the poignant border ballad “Across The Borderline”, written by Cooder himself with John Hiatt and Jim Dickinson.
1. Crazy ‘Bout An Automobile 2. Little Sister 3. Across The Borderline 4. He’ll Have To Go 5. Get Rhythm 6. Chain Gang 7. Jesus On The Mainline 8. Down In Mississippi 9. Tattler 10. How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live 11. You’re Gonna Need Somebody On Your Bond 12. Vigilante Man |
