Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, ON, Canada 17th June 1975 TRULY PERFECT SOUND

★First release! This is amazing! The best Stones title of the year!
High quality sound, UPGRADE!!!
The Rolling Stones’ 1975 US tour is a treasure trove of superb audiences. Starting with the first night in Baton Rouge, Madison Square Garden, and Mike Millard’s all-out performance at the LA Forum, the recordings are still as stunning as ever. In fact, the re-release of classic recordings like “HOLD ON TIGHT,” “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1975 1ST NIGHT: JOE MALONEY MASTER,” and “LA FORUM 1975 1ST NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES: COMPLETE EDITION” is still fresh in our memory.
Among these renowned recordings, the long-awaited new best-of was released in Toronto on June 17th. The nostalgic OBR label released this on an LP called “TORONTO,” which became a recording that has been popular with enthusiasts as a premium audience for the first half of the tour. The sound quality improved dramatically with the 2001 VGP album “LUXURY IN TORONTO.” However, releases since then have been slow, and for a time, it even became quite a premium release.
Not only was the sound quality extremely appealing, but the content itself was also extremely appealing, so a long-awaited update of the best of the Toronto 75 was the answer. Graf Zeppelin stepped up to the plate! This time, the remaster was based on a better master, clearly in better condition than the VGP version, though the genera are unknown. The VGP version was originally released during the heyday of equalization, and felt a bit rough to the touch. However, this version is more subdued, and when you listen to the opening of “If You Can’t Rock Me,” for example, it’s as if a rough, thin layer has been peeled back, creating a sense of ease and brilliance.
In addition, GRAF ZEPPELIN has skillfully adjusted the tendency for the performance to lean to the left, which was particularly noticeable in the first half of the live performance. The periodic drop-down phenomenon, which could be said to be a chronic problem of this sound source, has also been precisely adjusted. It has been reborn in a state that is much calmer and easier to listen to than the previously released version.
Originally, the recording on this day had a great appeal in the proximity of the sound image, second only to Millerd, and was an outstanding high-quality audience recording before MSG’s 1975 US tour. Even so, the sound spread unique to stereo recording was also excellent, and it was true that the bias to the left, which was particularly noticeable in the first half of the live performance, was a concern. This eliminates such problems, making it much easier to listen to.
And did they get their hands on some top-notch stuff in Toronto? Mick was totally over the top with his hyper shouts from the very beginning of the show. Even the opening song “Honky Tonk Women” had an incident where Mick couldn’t be heard for nearly a chorus, but that didn’t bother him. It was a wild Mick that made you want to call it “75.” What’s more, it continued throughout the entire show, not just the first half, which was terrifying. It was no longer a lukewarm shout, but Mick’s constant screaming that was the highlight.
The highlight is the amazing live version of “Luxury,” which was dropped from the setlist before it was even performed at MSG. Even here, Mick’s wild intensity is impressive, and it’s a shame that such a light-hearted performance was dropped. Even rarer tracks like this are captured with excellent sound quality. While the existence of a soundboard was confirmed on this day, it’s this recording that truly conveys the charm of the dynamic performance.
Not only was this one of the best audiences in the first half of the 1975 tour, but Mick’s wild screaming was also intense. It was even more wild than the stage performances after MSG. This is the long-awaited upgrade of the famous Toronto 75, which truly combines both sound quality and performance content!
