Live at Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, Arizona, USA 13th December 1981 STEREO SBD
UPGRADE
Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, the main setting for the film “Let’s Spend the Night Together.” Two different mixes of this multi-track recording have now been released. The first is the audio from “Satisfaction Guaranteed,” released by VGP in 1997 as a rough mix made for the film. The other is a rough mix for a radio broadcast, distributed on the “Concert Vault” website and now known as “Tempe 1981.”
The latter is particularly impressive in terms of sound quality, and so it seems to have become more popular today, but the impact of “SATISFACTION GUARANTEED” when it was released in 1997 was enormous. Unlike the favorable circumstances of recent years, it was extremely rare for rough mixes of multi-track recordings to be leaked, so the impact was enormous. It truly caused a huge sensation.
However, as with any leaked recording, there were some flaws, most notably the absence of the last two tracks. It was also true that the use of noise reduction to remove hiss from multiple cassette dubbings resulted in an unnatural sound. Nevertheless, the sheer impact of the leaked multi-track recordings made it a bestseller. However, a shocking upgrade of the rough mix for this film quietly appeared in 2019.
The original source was the recordings owned by Arthur Collins, the vice president of Rolling Stones Records. However, by the time they appeared in 2019, they had already been dominated by radio recordings, and the following year, the enormous amount of studio recordings he owned by the Stones had such a big impact that they ended up being overlooked.
In fact, the sound quality of the outtakes related to “Women” and “Undercover” that Collins owned was excellent (although some of the “Tattooed Man” ones were not so great), and it is still fresh in my memory that the quality was so high that it wiped out the items that had been circulating for many years.
The Tempe 1981 that he owned was a rough mix for the film. It was surprising to see how much better the sound quality was. Not only was the sound quality itself incomparable to the old VGP version, but the last two tracks were also included.
That’s right, it means that you can now listen to the sound source and mix of “SATISFACTION GUARANTEED” all the way to the end! And with a significant improvement in sound quality. Of course, there are no problems like the sound shifting to the right in “Shattered” or skipping in “Just My Imagination”. The sound quality and condition are on a completely different level. That’s why the chaos that occurs when Mick’s simple mistake on “Let It Bleed” messes up the performance is even more noticeable…lol
Despite the overwhelming improvement in sound quality of these leaked multi-tracks, GRAF ZEPPELIN has thoroughly reworked the original recordings for this release. Not only has it corrected the slight pitch increase that likely occurred when the original reels were transferred to Collins’ cassettes, but it has also thoroughly compensated for the cuts between tracks, including “Miss You” and “Honky Tonk Women,” by utilizing recordings from TEMPE 1981 and elsewhere.
On the contrary, the sound quality of this recording is so high that it surpasses even the previously thought-of high-quality sound of “TEMPE 1981,” and with the supervision of “GRAF ZEPPELIN,” it has finally been elevated to a normal live album, and even a blissful piece as a complete live album from Sun Devil Stadium, the setting for the movie.
Like the Mike Millard-recorded “LA FORUM 1975 5TH NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES,” which will be released this week, there are sure to be many enthusiasts who have listened to these leaked multi-tracks over and over again. Enjoy a wonderful weekend with these two releases: the classic 1975 recordings from the finest audiences and the shockingly superior versions of the leaked 1981 multi-tracks!

REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN
★This is the definitive remastered version of the “Ruff Mixes” version of the recordings released a few years ago as a collaboration between JEMS and Captain Acid!
★There is no reduction in the high-frequency range, so you can enjoy an even more vivid and thicker sound than existing versions such as Wolfgang’s!
★Pitch correction, uncut restoration of overlapping recordings between songs, and filling in gaps have been made, making this the longest recording ever!
★There seems to be a brief cut in the sound at the beginning of Little T & A, but this is apparently due to the channel audio for the left and right audience microphones being turned off when the guitar comes in.
