Honolulu 66 is well known as a famous soundboard that allows you to enjoy pure live performances from Brian’s time without any tricks like the official “GOT LIVE IF YOU WANT IT!”. Even more than that, the youthful performance has been well-known since the LP era, and the original TSP release “SO MUCH YOUNGER THAN TODAY,” which served as the basis for this CD version, was extremely popular despite being an air-check sound source.
Later, with the advent of the CD era, the original broadcast recordings were unearthed and the sound quality improved dramatically. They finally established themselves as the standard live recordings from the Brian era. However, when they first appeared, many releases had some issues, such as added reverb, hum due to being dubbed via VHS, and occasional dropouts typical of vintage recordings. In fact, some releases even had editing that concealed the dropouts.
The 2022 album “SO MUCH YOUNGER THAN TODAY” thoroughly reexamines the issues that had been overlooked because it is such a classic recording, and literally releases the best Honolulu.
Like the Stones’ previous live recording series supervised by GRAF ZEPPELIN, the 2022 release is already sold out. What’s more, it’s not just the best version of the Honolulu concert, but also a comprehensive album of the ’66 live performance, coupled with live recordings from Australia at the same time. People have even asked, “Why hasn’t it been reissued?” They’ve even said they hope for a re-release like Philspe or Rubber Bowl.
As mentioned at the beginning, the Honolulu recording was an impeccable finish, so the content of this release is no different from the 2022 release. While many live recordings from this era tend to lack Brian’s guitar presence, the appeal of this Honolulu radio recording is that his guitar sounds big throughout. It’s a recording that once again reminds us that Brian was the driving force behind this energetic performance.
The additional Sydney radio recordings have been a hot topic as valuable 1966 recordings unearthed in recent years, but they are somewhat muffled and have a humming sound that gives them a digital feel. GRAF ZEPPELIN has thoroughly remastered the recordings, restoring the analog feel of 1966.
Not only does the youthful performance shine here, but the appeal is in the rare repertoire of “She Said Yeah” and “That’s How Strong My Love,” which were not performed in Honolulu. In the former, Mick’s voice seems hoarse, which is also due to his youth. The highlight is “Play With Fire,” a band arrangement in which Brian plays the organ. The disruption of the performance in “Get Off Of My Cloud” is also youthful.
Meanwhile, the Melbourne release is a remastered radio broadcast unearthed 20 years ago that caused quite a stir. The sound quality is exceptional, rivaling the Honolulu release, and the recordings offer a truly captivating experience of the band’s youthful yet wild playing, bursting with rare repertoire. And in the final interview, the interviewer even utters the line “Swingin’ pig!” (!).
Thus, the long-awaited re-release of the full-length soundboard masterpiece, which more realistically captures the charm of the 1966 Stones live performance than the official “GOT LIVE IF YOU WANT IT!” The jacket also reproduces the authentic TSP feel even more than last time!

REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN★Previous remaster notes
★The album mainly features the 1966 Honolulu concert.
It also includes performances in Sydney and Melbourne in February of the same year.
A collection of over 79 minutes of footage from the 1966 live performance, all on one CD.
The CD title pays homage to the title of the vinyl LP (TSP 012) from the Honolulu concert.
★Section 1: Honolulu, July 28, 1966
– Compared to previous releases, this master has a good
introduction with less hum noise, and the frequent small sound dropouts and sound dropouts during the songs have been corrected as much as possible.
In particular, the sound dropouts that occurred during the songs “The Last Time” and “Mother’s Little Helper”
were not simply pinched and processed, but rather the band adjustment was applied to restore the dropouts seamlessly.
Also, some parts of the previous VGP were cut out due to the sound dropouts during the introduction.
(Approximately 0.6 seconds of the VGP are missing around 0:17 on track 1 of this disc.)
★Section 2: Sydney, February 18, 1966 (1st Show)
– The same master as the gift disc CDR has been remastered,
with hum removal and bandwidth adjustment for a much cleaner sound.
The hiss was also removed, creating a very digital-like sound, so EQ processing was applied to restore an analog feel. – The buzzing sound that occurred intermittently around 3:15 in ”
satisfaction” on the gift disc has also been removed as naturally as possible (the processing marks are less noticeable than on the previously released DAC disc).
★Section 3: Melbourne, February 24, 1966 (2nd Show)
– Remastered from an old recording. Some hum noise has been removed, making it clearer, but there’s not much difference. The slightly metallic sound has always been there.
