Description

Municipal Auditorium, Mobile, AL, USA 27th June 1972 PERFECT SOUND

If the stereo audience of the Rolling Stones’ 1972 US tour was the highly acclaimed “CHARLOTTE 1972” released last week, then the mono audience was Mobile, Alabama on June 27th. The sound source on this day was very clear and the recording condition was very easy to listen to, and it is a famous audience that has been well-known among enthusiasts for a long time.

The famous taper “Freezer” left us this famous recording. He would later produce a rare masterpiece audience recording in “BATON ROUGE 1975 1ST SHOW”, but his early work was in 1972 with Mobile. Therefore, it is not as outstanding a recording as the later Baton Rouge, but it still boasts an exquisite balance of a moderate sense of distance and above all a very clear texture, and it has already become a famous recording that gives us a glimpse of the famous taper.

Low gen copies of this recording were widely circulated when CD-R trading became common in the 21st century, and became the basis for VGP’s “ALABAMA JUBILEE” (VGP-306) and Scorpio’s “TURN THE HEAT UP, THE STONESBLAST THROUGH THE LAND” released under the name Bad Wizard, but it was DAC’s later “TOURING PARTY VOL.2” that remains the best to this day.

However, after that, even though “Freezer” in better condition was distributed, no items based on it were released at all, which was an abnormal situation. In other words, even though it was possible to release a release with better sound quality than those items, it was left unattended.

Graf Zeppelin stepped up to help with this dire situation. Their amazing work on “Charlotte 1972” is still fresh in our memory, and they’ve once again revamped their best album to perfection!

First of all, based on the new transfers of recent years, the quality is almost guaranteed to surpass the early 21st century releases mentioned above. Now, let’s compare it with the DAC version, which has continued to reign as the best of this sound source…the difference is clear. This time, the skill of “GRAF ZEPPELIN”, who is particular about naturalness, combined with the new transfer makes it feel like a new layer has literally been peeled off, making it a striking listening experience.

It is obvious that the sound quality of the mono audience, which is originally clear, is even clearer. In front of such an upper feeling, the previously released board feels like it has poor sound quality. In particular, when the horn section is playing like “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” or “All Down The Line”, it becomes even easier to understand, and you can feel the natural spread of this time.

A feature of “Freezer” is that after the end of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and before Mick says “Rock on”, a cut occurs during the tape change, which has been overlooked in all previous releases. GRAF ZEPPELIN did not miss this. They supplemented it with the source of the nostalgic Morganfield record “MOBILE ’72” that was released before the distribution of the “Freezer” sound source. It is certainly a scene that has nothing to do with music, but it is a groundbreaking achievement to have an uncut recording of the live performance by supplementing this!

And one week before Charlotte, the Stones’ performance was also a blast of 1972 Americana. The performance was very sharp, and Taylor’s solo on “Gimme Shelter” was very aggressive. In Charlotte, the performance was impressive, but on this day, the sharpness was very 1972-like.

The audience at Mobile went wild in front of this aggressive performance, and by the end of the show, “Rip This Joint,” they were all on their feet, and the sound image seemed to be pushed a little further away, which was quite vivid.

The famous recording 72 Mobile has long been known for its clear and easy-to-listen-to sound, unique to mono. The upgraded version that enthusiasts have been waiting for for many years has finally been realized by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. Please enjoy this unique listening experience by playing it loud from your speakers!

REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN
★Latest mastering!

There are two different audio sources for this live performance, but this time the clearer and fresher source (the one known from the VGP and DAC versions) is used as a base, and some of the cuts between songs are replaced with a different source (the one known from the Morganfield version) for a few seconds, resulting in a simple but complete non-stop recording of the live performance!

The main sound source is a balanced band correction. By making it completely mono (originally recorded in mono), the sound is stable and there is no bias!
There are some parts where the microphone is hidden and the balance of handclaps is loud, but this can’t be helped. It’s clear from start to finish and has good freshness, so you can listen to it all at once!
