HP Pavilion, San Jose, CA, USA 8th May 2013 TRULY PERFECT SOUND

After the restart in 2012, the 2013 “50 AND COUNTING…” became a big topic at the time as the first full-scale tour. As a result, many items were produced in real time, but on the other hand, the sound source has not been widely recorded with high quality sound compared to recent live performances, and as a result, there are still days when there are no items.

San Jose on May 8th was a typical day, and although audience recordings existed at the time, the sound quality was not so good. It was also included in the box set of Wonderland Records, which was a big hit with its exaggerated releases at the time, but the original sound quality was not good, so it was not a hot topic even among enthusiasts.

This time, we are releasing the San Jose recording by Daspyknows, which was previously available on IORR. Speaking of Daspyknows’ “50 AND COUNTING…” recordings, there was the tour’s best recording, “OAKLAND 2013” (already sold out), but this San Jose recording by Daspyknows is a truly overlooked recording, and I was surprised at how easy it was to listen to! It’s amazing that such a superb recording has been overlooked and never released on vinyl for so long…

Anyway, the balance with just the right distance makes it extremely comfortable to listen to, but the most attractive feature is the extremely clear texture. With such high quality, it is only natural that it would be released on a limited press CD. As expected, Daspyknows has a stunning high-quality sound that can only be described as impressive.

Furthermore, as this was the third day of the “50 AND COUNTING…” tour, the overall performance was full of things to comment on, and it was really interesting to listen to. The tour also attracted attention for the appearance of luxurious guests on stage every day, and on this day, the super luxurious combination of John Fogerty and Bonnie Raitt was featured. It’s surprising that such a high-quality recording from that day had never been released before.

First up was John Fogerty, who appeared on “It’s All Over Now.” He and Mick sang a vocal exchange, but perhaps due to the timing of the first half of the concert, the performance was a bit shaky from the beginning, but after the interlude, it became increasingly disorganized. Still, it’s significant that Fogerty and the Stones played together.

Bonnie Raitt was not initially introduced to Mick, but appeared on stage as soon as “Let It Bleed” began. As soon as she appeared, cheers rose from the audience, but the rich presence was the hallmark of audience recording. It’s really pleasant to listen to.

The performances and songs are equally impressive compared to Mick and the Stones, and their signature slides are also plenty of room to spare. The scenes of the two guests’ appearances, which resulted in a stark contrast, are also captured with clear sound quality.

Even excluding the “It’s All Over Now” scene, the third day of the tour, the early part and the Keith Corner felt a bit disorganized, but it was clear that the band regained their composure with the literally breathtaking “No Expectations.” The fact that it happened after this song sounds like a good collaboration with Raitt.

The following song, “Emotional Rescue,” made its live debut on this tour and became a hot topic at the time, and its energetic performance is excellent. What makes it even more outstanding is that this tour was also known for featuring two new songs from that time. However, on this day, “Doom and Gloom” was not performed, and only “One More Shot” was played, which is a rare occurrence. This is especially true since the song was short-lived as a repertoire in the first place.

And in “Midnight Rambler”, Mick Taylor, who was also a highlight at the time, participated. Here too, you can see how he played his solo to his heart’s content and reverberated throughout the venue.

Another noteworthy point is that Mick Taylor also appeared on “Satisfaction” from San Jose, and it is also wonderful that he participated for the first time with an electric guitar rather than an acoustic guitar like in the latter half of the tour.

More than 10 years have passed since the “50 AND COUNTING…” tour, which seemed like a recent event. From the tour that brings back memories in every sense, the buried upper version master has excellent sound quality and is full of highlights!
