2nd Generation Transfer From Brad Blanck’s Master Reel To Reels
The Forum, Inglewood, CA, USA 10th July 1975 PERFECT SOUND
The Rolling Stones’ 1975 LA Forum performance was a masterpiece. While July 13th is the only choice in terms of sound quality, with both official and unofficial recordings, the 10th stands out in terms of performance. The most famous performance of “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo” from that day was included on the LP “Charlie Watts and His Fabulous Rolling Stones” released by Idle Mind, and the sound quality was also excellent. However, even with the companion album “1975 Tour of the Americas,” only six songs were included, making it far too incomplete to hear the entire 10th concert.
The early 21st century was when the enthusiasts finally got their fill. Another audience recording, “Recorder 2,” was unearthed, revealing the entire July 10th concert for the first time. Recorder 1, used on the previous LP, was a high-quality audio recording presumably recorded by John Wizard for Idle Mind. Recorder 2, on the other hand, was a major success, as it allowed the entire concert to be heard for the first time. As soon as the recording was released, VGP released it as “1975 NERVOUS BREAKDOWN.” While the sound quality was inferior to the LP source, enthusiasts jumped on it.
However, it is still fresh in our memory that a further “recorder 3” was unearthed in 2021 and released as “LA FORUM 1975 2ND NIGHT”. Although this new excavation also could not compete with the LP source, it was still an Aud with sound quality that was easy to listen to, so it has replaced “recorder 2” as a record of the entire live performance.
Although it was a historic discovery at the time, the LA Forum’s July 10th “Recorder 2” seems to have been completely overlooked. A low-generation copy of this unfortunate source suddenly appeared online. This version is said to be second-gen, but this precious version was unearthed by Waz From Oz, who has delighted enthusiasts with previous releases such as “SYDNEY 1973 1ST NIGHT: RECORDER 2 UPGRADE.”
He released the 2nd gen. for us, but even before that, he was so committed to this release that he provided the sound source before it was released online, and even provided stage images on the day. After that, he asked us to release it once it was released online, and this week’s limited press CD is what has been made into a reality.
Some enthusiasts may have already heard the version released online, but “Waz From Oz” is uploaded to the internet with its low pitch as is. He provided the sound source with the hope that this would be corrected when the CD was released, and needless to say, he thoroughly adjusted it.
What surprised me most about this second-gen release was the overwhelming improvement in sound quality. This discovery revealed that the version used on the VGP disc was significantly outdated. “Waz From Oz” was a “copy that you couldn’t tell how many times it had been dubbed,” and the fizzing equalization made it even worse. It was probably a desperate attempt to alleviate the roughness of the sound, but the combined effect is now unbearable to listen to. This time, it’s so much easier to listen to, it’s a truly amazing upgrade; there’s no comparison.
Moreover, unlike the 2021 release of “LA FORUM 1975 2ND NIGHT,” “Recorder 2” has the great advantage of being recorded in stereo, which is also highlighted by this upgrade. Fans who thought the old VGP version was only that good will be amazed at how easy it is to listen to. While it can’t compete with the LP source, you’ll be reminded that “Recorder 2” is also a wonderful recording.
It was a day when attention tended to be drawn to “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo,” whose accidental intro turned into a masterpiece, but the high-energy performance throughout the live performance was also very impressive. It was because they were exploding right from “If You Can’t Rock Me – Get Off Of My Cloud” that they were able to get through the incident with momentum.
”Recorder 2″ also stands out for its stereo recording, capturing the excitement of the venue with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Midnight Rambler” in a truly vivid way. It’s impossible not to get excited after hearing such a performance. The realism of this sense of presence is due to the sudden improvement in sound quality.
And towards the end of the live performance, at “Jumping Jack Flash,” it seems that Keith’s guitar was having trouble again, and Mick stirred it up and Charlie continued to pound away, creating a thrilling performance that you’ll probably notice is cool. With the appearance of “LA FORUM 1975 2ND NIGHT,” the July 10th “recorder 2,” which was thought to be out of service, has been unexpectedly upgraded!
