Definitive collection of BBC recording sessions and live performances
★UPGRADE!!!
”BBC SESSIONS 1963-1971,” which has been praised by enthusiasts worldwide as the definitive Stones BBC release with a volume and sound quality that easily surpasses the official “ON AIR,” is also sold out. The definitive titles of these classic recordings should be available in stable supply before they are even reissued. And there’s a big reason this time around that goes beyond a simple re-release.
Prof. Stoned, who released this masterpiece in 2024, released a new version last year, including a stunning new, improved sound from his 1971 Top of the Pops television appearance. Of the three songs performed in this appearance, only “Brown Sugar” still has video footage; the remaining two songs famously lost their footage due to the destruction by the BBC, the king of archive destruction.
However, Prof. Stoned unearthed a recording of the infamous “Bitch” and “Wild Horses” that was recorded by a fan using a TV plug. This recording has a super clear sound quality that is on a different level from the sound source picked up from the TV speakers heard in past items.
Since these two songs have long been known as songs for which no video footage remains, we have been grateful to have listened to the conventional speaker sound source, but the day has finally come when we can hear them with clear sound quality that is comparable to the familiar “Brown Sugar” audio!
Only the beginning of “Bitch” was not recorded, which was compensated for by the conventional speaker sound source, but thanks to this, the difference in level with the current sound source was clearly felt. When comparing the beginning of this song in this way, it is surprising that the sound quality is as different as heaven and earth.
And in “Wild Horses,” it is clear from the remaining photos that Keith was recorded in the style of playing a 12-string acoustic guitar, but it also turns out that Mick Taylor challenged it with karaoke, adding a new lead guitar for television. This was audible in the previous sound source, but it is fresh again when heard with this sound quality.
The discovery of these two surprising tracks alone is sure to bring tears to the eyes of enthusiasts, but the packaging has also been completely redesigned. Speaking of BBC items, back in the vinyl era, TSP’s “BBC Broadcasts” and the classic “Stones at the Beep” all featured outdoor photos taken in 1966 on the back cover of their greatest hits album “Big Hits.”
So for this re-release, we used a photo from the same photo session on the jacket. For many fans, the image of the back cover session of “BIG HITS” is a strong one when it comes to BBC material, and we thought that this would make it feel like “this is the BBC.”
Prof. Stoned’s masterful compilation of the Stones’ BBC releases, while the previous release featured surprising discoveries like “Around and Around,” this release boasts even more astonishing improvements in the sound quality of “Bitch” and “Wild Horses.” Furthermore, as noted in online reviews, Prof. Stoned was dissatisfied with his own processing of the previous releases, and has now undertaken the latest remastering of Sessions #1, #4, and #12, aiming for even greater sound quality. This means that the value of this classic set, which is sure to satisfy even with just these two tracks, is sure to increase even more. This is a renewed edition with a completely new cover and content!
