First appearance!!
The masterpiece “JAZZ” was produced again in collaboration with Roy Thomas Baker. The demo album that details the production process is released for the first time! This new masterpiece that is a hot topic all over the world will be released on a press CD.
This work contains 9 different versions of the 13 songs on “JAZZ”. It is a collection of 18 treasured tracks, including two versions with different mastering. However, it is a little different from the so-called leaked demo sound source. Let’s introduce them step by step.
[Hidden Treasure Demo shown at fan convention]
First of all, this work is unique in the circumstances in which it was released/recorded. Usually, a demo recording is a master (or a copy) recorded in a studio that is leaked as a tape, but this work is different. It was released at the fan club convention held in Mablethorpe in 2018. It was recorded by a participating fan on a microphone at the venue where the tape was made. In other words, the performance itself is a demo recording made in the studio, but at the same time it is also an audience recording.
Of course, the sound quality is superb. The original demo tape itself is probably in pretty good condition, but unlike an audience recording at a loud live venue, the performance flows clearly and with a transparent atmosphere. Although it is in principle an “audience recording,” the impression I got from actually listening to it was that it was a “demo sound source with a little noise from the venue.”
[Nine treasured versions of musically enjoyable songs]
Of course, the biggest point of this work is the different versions of the masterpieces. Let’s briefly introduce each take.
●Mustapha (takes 6-10)
Although there is a little scat singing, it is basically a backing track without vocals. Five takes were done in five minutes, with some retakes in between.

●Fat Bottomed Girls (alternate vocal, unedited backing track)
This take starts with a squealing sound, but is highly polished. The vocals are different, and the sound quality and atmosphere make it feel like you’re listening to a live performance.

●Jealousy (different take of bed tracks)
Piano and bass backing track. There is a voice muttering something, but it is basically an instrumental. The playfulness when the performance is stopped halfway through also gives a nice feel to the atmosphere of the studio.

●Bicycle Race (five takes)
The lyrics hadn’t been written yet, so this version is sung in scat. However, the song and the arrangement were pretty well done, and it would have been interesting to have finished it as it was, like FOCUS. The second half was redone as an instrumental, but if you listen carefully, you can hear the crowd singing along in places. This take also has a fun convention atmosphere.

●If You Can’t Beat Them (alternate vocal)
This is also a highly polished take, but with different vocals. These takes don’t feel half-made, and they make you feel like QUEEN is playing live on the spot.

●Let Me Entertain You (takes 5-7)
A demo of about 3 minutes with 3 retakes. While the arrangement itself is pretty solidified, the lyrics are still incomplete and the rest of the song is hummed scat.

●Dead On Time (takes 27-28)
A three-minute demo with the rather fragmented “takes 27” and the well-played “takes 28”. The scene at the beginning where the performance collapses causes laughter at the convention venue. This work is a valuable studio album, but it is also a convention experience album.

●Fun It (alternate vocal, Roger only)
Although this work is a demo, there are many takes that can be enjoyed as alternative versions with high degree of completion, but the most wonderful one is “Fun It”. It is almost complete, but only Roger sings. It is a work that could have been included in the album in this version.

●Don’t Stop Me Now (alternate vocal)
The last song is the deeply moving “Don’t Stop Me Now”. This take also has a different vocal, but is musically complete, and is as fun as a live performance. It concludes the album with a sense of exhilaration.

[A crisp remastered version that comes as close as possible to studio sound]
The nine takes above were released at the convention. The first half of this work is recorded as it was recorded, but the second half contains a remastered version of the same sound source. It was recorded by the collector who released the sound source, and the aim is probably to “get closer to the studio sound”.
In fact, the sound is vivid and clear. The hall echo of the venue is suppressed as much as possible, and the contours of each sound stand out beautifully. Although it does not perfectly reproduce the sound of the studio recording itself, it is a masterpiece version that allows you to clearly feel the fine details of the demo performance.
This is a collection of 9 takes x 2 versions, a total of 70 minutes and 20 seconds. This is a super unique new masterpiece that is both “another JAZZ” and “an experience board to witness a convention”. Please enjoy the impact of the new excavation to the fullest with the press CD that will leave a lasting impression.
A demo album of the masterpiece “JAZZ”. It was released at the fan club convention in 2018 and recorded by fans who attended. Nine different versions of the songs were performed, and this work contains two versions: the original recording version and the master version with a more studio-like sound. This is a super unique new masterpiece that is both “another JAZZ” and “an experience album to witness at a convention.”
