Live at Alameda Coliseum, Oakland, CA, USA 9th May 1977 ULTIMATE SOUND

★UPGRADE
Oakland, a once-in-a-lifetime masterpiece audience born from the 1977 Animals tour. Just mentioning the name of the place is enough to tell Floyd enthusiasts when it was a live performance. That’s why the 2021 release of “ULTIMATE OAKLAND” was the final version of the masterpiece audience that has been released many times by the Sirene and Sigma brands.
I was really lucky that a taper named Reinhard Holwein, who had recorded the Grateful Dead’s live performances near San Francisco, attended the Pink Floyd concert on May 9, 1977. Dead tapers are veterans of concert recording. It was nothing short of a miracle that a taper like him, who was literally “skilled in audience recording,” attended the 1977 Floyd concert, which was just as concerned about the acoustics of stadium live performances as the Dead, and especially the first day at the Oakland Coliseum.
Thanks to this, the result was an extremely high-quality audience recording that would have even made Mike Millard green. The recording know-how that Hallwin accumulated at Dead concerts and Floyd’s sound system, which sounds from multiple directions in the stadium, are a perfect match. The sound image is so close that it’s almost like a soundboard, and the rich sound that would have reverberated in the venue on the day is so vividly captured. This was another miraculous recording.
”ULTIMATE OAKLAND” is the album that polished the audience of such a rare masterpiece in rock history to the ultimate form. It is the definitive version that GRAF ZEPPELIN has brilliantly proven that Oakland, which seemed to have reached the ultimate with the release of “DEFINITIVE OAKLAND” in 2017, still had room for improvement. In particular, the highlight of the day, the encore “Careful With That Axe, Eugene”, was the adjustment of the pitch deviation that had been overlooked by all the previously released versions, which is the face of GRAF ZEPPELIN.
The final version of “ULTIMATE OAKLAND” has sold out, and the stable supply of the eternal classic Oakland has been cut off, which is a serious situation. It is natural that requests for reissues are received for such a classic, and even if they are not, re-release is urgently needed. Therefore, for this re-release, “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has made some slight adjustments. However, the thorough phase correction of the previous release was literally at the ultimate level, so this time it was limited to minor adjustments.
Instead, the title and artwork have been completely renewed. The previous work “ULTIMATE OAKLAND” was designed like a sister edition of “DEFINITIVE OAKLAND”, but this jacket is a homage to the nostalgic Great Dane record “IN THE FLESH”. Unlike the eccentric Mike Millard (bitter smile), Dead Taper’s Hall Winn, who is proactive in trading, has been spreading the original sound source since the beginning, and as a result, this GDR record boasts the highest level of sound quality at the time, and there must have been many enthusiasts who were blown away by his recordings and Floyd’s masterpieces.
On the other hand, the title also pays homage to the nostalgic HIGHLAND version. While the GDR version was a high-quality Oakland from the cassette trade era, the HIGHLAND version benefited from the DAT trade era and was the first release based on the 1st Gen Reel. Speaking of Oakland, there are countless enthusiasts who have been helped by this title. A package that combines two nostalgic titles like this will make any enthusiast smile.
Thus, “Taper, who always recorded Dead, went to Floyd’s concert, and the result was a record of the Animals tour that was mind-blowing.” Furthermore, Floyd himself performed one of the best performances on the tour, and in the end, he performed “Careful With That Axe, Eugene” on this day only, and the miracle that captured that scene with perfect sound quality was accumulated in Oakland. The best version that brought out the charm of such a rare sound source to the utmost limit has returned with artwork and titles that will make any enthusiast cry!

REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN
★As with the previous release, digitized from the master tape.
★Since the previous release had already been thoroughly mastered, this is essentially a 2nd pressing, but
some EQ adjustments have been made to the previous master.

Also, there were some areas where the applause between songs was a bit dry, but this was slightly improved.
