The Palace Theatre, Manchester, UK 9th December 1974 TRULY PERFECT SOUND
★UPGRADE & LONGER
The famous recording that represented the “British Winter Tour 1974” leading to “WISH YOU WERE HERE” has been brushed up. A press 3CD that permanently preserves the longest / highest peak renewal sound by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has been decided to be released.
This work is engraved with the “Manchester performance on December 9, 1974”. It is a legendary audience recording that has told the whole story. Speaking of 1974, in addition to the classic Wembley trilogy, upgrades such as “BRITISH WINTER TOUR 74 (Sigma 339)” and “STAIRSTEP TO ABANDON: BRISTOL 1974 2ND NIGHT (Sigma 341)” have been a hot topic recently. This work is the latest edition. First of all, let’s organize the collection while unraveling the overview of the activities at that time.

[A unique show in which many different “1st Generation” shows have been in circulation]
This is PINK FLOYD in 1974. It is roughly divided into “Summer France (7 performances)” and “Winter UK (20 performances)”, but the latter, which has a large number of performances, is where the famous recordings are concentrated. The Manchester performance of this work was the 17th performance, which was the final one.
This day was also a show that attracted attention in the 21st century. The trigger was the existence of a famous recording unearthed around 2000. This work is the latest version that updates the longest / highest peak of that famous recording. The source is the 1st Gene Master released from the collection of Mr. Neonknights, a famous collector familiar to FLOYD fans. Here, you may think that “1st Jane has been around for a while,” but in fact, this is a bit complicated, and there are many types of 1st Gene of this recording on the market.
There are some that are purely dubbed differently, but even with the same master, there are many versions with different transfers and post-processing of the sound. As a result, even though they are all called “1st generation”, there are differences in quality depending on which one they are based on. And among them, the one that has been considered the best in recent years is the “1st generation of the Neonknights collection” (strictly speaking, there are two types of Neonknights collection, but from here on, you have no choice but to check the actual product).
[The longest and highest quality mastering while preserving the natural feel]
Anyway, this work is a polishing of such a best master by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. To put it simply, the sound is ultra-natural! The previously released “Sigma151” which was the best in the past was also the 1st generation, but it used a master with a strong digital processing feeling. Although it was not raised by making the sound pressure unnecessarily, a strong noise reduction was applied, and the balance adjustment to hide the hiss caused digital-specific distortion in the high and silent ranges.
Of course, that processing was the trend during the digital development period, but after that, the collector’s world changed its consciousness to the idea that “sound that is honest to the scene” is correct. As a result, the best evaluation of the many 1st generation has changed, and this work uses a master selected for its cutting-edge “clear and natural feeling”.
This work makes the most of the natural master’s flavor, but it is not untouched. As usual, the detailed mastering by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has been subjected to pitch/phase correction that does not allow even 1/1000th of a second of deviation, and balance adjustments and various noise treatments have also been performed based on band analysis. The most effective way to remove this noise is to remove the hum noise. The noise that was particularly noticeable in “Echoes” has been beautifully removed, and it has been applied with a sense of balance that does not affect the sound of the performance. This noiseless beauty has not been achieved in any previous releases.
Furthermore, (although a little modest) this work is also the longest ever. First of all, the original source itself had a 10 second longer opening part than the previous album “Sigma151”. And after the end of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” (the set change from the first part to the second part), it was patched with a separate recording. This was also only a few seconds, but we were particular about upgrading to the finest detail because we had thoroughly investigated all sources and masters.
Although it was thought that all of them were the same, the “1st Generation” actually had a large difference. This is the highest peak update board that has been refined with the utmost precision from the “true best master” found through thorough research. A sound world that has been reached after half a century since the tour site and a quarter century since the sound source was excavated. Please enjoy the experience to the fullest with the Press 3CD that will be handed down forever.

REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN
★The definitive recording of the 1974 Manchester concert!
This is a transfer by NB that is different from the previous Sigma release, and is the latest remaster of the 1st Gen version supervised by Neonknights.
The previous version had a tingly texture, as if the high frequencies had been boosted even further after noise reduction, perhaps to hide the hiss, but this time it has a natural sound that is free from any digital-like texture.
Furthermore, the Sirene version also had a tingly texture, so you could enjoy a natural, analog-like texture for the first time.
The difference between this and previous versions can be easily heard by listening to the beginning of Disc 2 and Disc 3 of the previous versions.
Another feature of previous recordings was the chronic issue of a loud hum noise in the Echoes recordings, but this new recording has the major advantage that for the first time the hum noise is barely noticeable and the recording can be enjoyed with a natural texture.
Regarding the recorded content, the intro before the start of the live performance is about 28 seconds longer than the previous Sigma recording, and compared to the Sirene recording, it is just over 10 seconds of the first appearance part.
In addition, there were two types of sound sources on this day, and the second one had many cuts and was inferior in sound quality, but this time the cheers after the performance of “Shine On-” were about 5 seconds, but the second sound source compensated for it, making it the longest recording ever!

★Legendary audience recording of the “December 9, 1974 Manchester performance”. This is the highest peak update board, which adopts the “Neonknights” collection, which is the longest and most natural of the many 1st generation masters, and is further mastered by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. Despite not having the processed feel of the conventional boards, it has realized an unprecedented sound world in which the fateful hum noise has been beautifully removed, and by supplementing it with another recording, it has also updated the longest. It is a 3-disc set that will truly become a cultural heritage.
