[Archival situation where new excavations have progressed significantly]
The work that is permanently preserved in this work is the “September 22, 1972 Los Angeles performance”. It is a superb audience recording recorded at the famous outdoor venue “Hollywood Bowl”. This day is also known for the famous recording of “This is it!” that was left on the 1972 tour, and the previously released group with the previous edition “HOLLYWOOD BOWL 1972: COMPLETE EDITION” at the top has been loved in our shop. However, after the release of the previous edition, further new recordings / new masters were unearthed one after another. This work is a true definitive edition that thoroughly examines and fully utilizes all such existing records and updates the longest / highest peak.
So let’s take a look at the six recordings that form the basis of this work.
●Recorder 1
A famous recording known for the legendary album “CRACKERS”. The master has already been lost, and this work has been digitized from the best existing 1st press LP.
●Recorder 2
The best recording, which is also the main part of this work. The conventional version was the 1st generation, but this work finally uses a DAT copy of the original master reel that was excavated.
●Mono recording for Recorder 3.
“Speak To Me” is recorded for a long time, and is also an essential record for updating the longest record ever.
●Recorder 4
This is also a supplementary mono recording. It has not received much attention, but detailed analysis has revealed that it contains inter-song parts that are not included in other recordings.
●Recorder 5
Surprisingly important stereo recording. The voices of nearby customers are thought to be a nuisance, but the parts where the surroundings are quiet are of high quality. The usable parts are quite usable hidden recordings, and are also the key to upgrading “Any Colour You Like”.
●Recorder Recorded by 6
masters John Wizard. This was only for compensation on this day.
[A large expansion board that makes full use of six types of masters]
… and so on. Recorders 1, 2, and 3 were found at the time of the previous release. After that, Recorders 4, 5, and 6 were unearthed. This work uses all six of these. Of course, they are not all used forcibly, but all the recorded parts of all the recordings were searched out, and when aiming for maximum expansion without missing a second, it was necessary to record everything. And the extended length is about six minutes. Each part of the show is a few seconds longer, but the biggest one is the opening “Speak To Me”. It was about two minutes on the previous release, but this work is about four and a half minutes long.
Another big part of the compensation was “Any Colour You Like”. There is a tape change cut at the end of this song, which was supplemented with “Recorder 1” on the conventional version. That was fine, but “Recorder 1” caused sound fluctuations in this part. So in this work, it was replaced with “Recorder 5”. This recording is despised because the surrounding customers are a bit noisy, but the basic sound is great. Moreover, there was no noise around in this part, which greatly contributed to the stabilization of “Any Colour You Like”.
[A masterpiece from 1972 with a major improvement in basic quality]
Although the expansion of each part is important, the basic sound is improved even more (significantly!). The key is the upgrade master of the best recording “Recorder 2”, which accounts for the majority of this work. Until the previous edition, the 1st Gene Master was used, but after that, the original master reel was excavated. In this work, the DAT copy is used.
The sound is truly “peeled off” and vivid. The transparency of the air has increased, the sharpness of the contours, and the fineness of the details are even more prominent. Of course, it is not processed by equalization, so it is extremely natural, and even the finest details are fresh. Although it was the 1st generation before, it is an upgraded sound that makes you realize once again how different it is with just one dubbing.
Among the many 1972 recordings, the Hollywood Bowl performance has been loved as a masterpiece of “prototype madness” alongside “RAINBOW THEATRE 1972 FINAL NIGHT (Sigma 196)”. This is the true definitive version that significantly updates the longest/highest peak. This complete album was born only because it made full use of six types of records. Please enjoy it anytime and forever with the Press 2CD that will never lose its brilliance.
