[Main: The legendary festival “DAY ON THE GREEN”]
This is Peter Frampton in 1977/1978. With “I’M IN YOU” reaching number 2 on the US charts, he immediately embarked on a full-fledged US tour. This performance at “DAY ON THE GREEN” was the ninth show of the tour.
This film, which captures such a show, features superb visuals that make you feel like you’re experiencing its heyday right through the monitor. Although it’s technically a multi-camera pro-shot, the feel of this film might be better described as a “documentary.” The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum overflowing with a huge crowd, the audience filled with half-naked young people like a beach, the relaxed atmosphere backstage, and the fireworks announcing the start of the show… Everything is depicted with a historical mood reminiscent of a documentary.
Even after the show begins, the style remains unwavering, and the camerawork and color scheme are truly cinematic. It’s a record of a live performance, but the main focus is the mood of their heyday. It’s as if the hot summer breeze of California is blowing out from the speakers.
[Bonus: The legendary program “The Midnight Special”] The
”DAY ON THE GREEN” video is full of atmosphere, but unfortunately it’s only four songs long. So, this release also includes the legendary program “The Midnight Special” as a bonus.
Frampton appeared in “Episode 134 (aired September 5, 1975)” and “Episode 149 (aired December 19, 1975),” both hosted by Helen Reddy. Although there was a gap of about three months between the broadcast dates, he wore the same outfit and performed the same song, “Baby I Love Your Way.” The filming date is unclear, but it appears that both episodes were filmed at once.
And the quality is breathtakingly beautiful. As those who have taken the time to read this article may already know, a superb master copy has recently been released on the program’s official channel, and this release features only Frampton’s parts, carefully selected from that official master copy. You can enjoy five songs in what is literally “official-grade” quality.
This video collection couples the incredibly energetic “DAY ON THE GREEN,” which was a massive hit at the time, with “The Midnight Special,” a TV appearance from the era that produced the legendary live album. These historical live footages are presented in the best quality available. This is truly a “COMES ALIVE!” experience to be seen with your own eyes. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
