Description
Chinook Winds Casino, Lincoln City, Oregon, USA 9th May 2014
In 2014, Paul Rodgers released the cover album “THE ROYAL SESSIONS” alongside his activities with the reunited BAD COMPANY. Now, a newly discovered soundboard album has been discovered that will let you pour his undiminished, beautiful voice into your brain.
This recording captures the “Lincoln City concert on May 9, 2014,” and is a stereo soundboard recording. After ending his time with Queen in 2008, Rodgers resumed his career while balancing his solo work with BAD COMPANY. Since 2013, BAD COMPANY tours have become a regular occurrence, and in 2014, he released his first solo album in 14 years. He has established himself as someone who juggles both careers.
On the other hand, it’s also true that there were few opportunities to hear their music through recordings, as they didn’t visit Japan. So, this is a good opportunity to start with an overview of their activities at that time.

[The first release in the much-talked-about newly unearthed soundboard series]
This is Paul Rodgers in 2014. In truth, there are many ambiguities in the records from that time (especially his solo work), so the above is for reference only. Don’t trust the details such as the number of performances, and just get a general idea of the flow and timing. “North America #1” after the release of “THE ROYAL SESSIONS” was a solo tour, and “North America #2” in the summer was a tour with BAD COMPANY. The Lincoln City performance on this release was a concert in the middle of the former.
This recording, which captures such a show, is a shocking soundboard recording making its first appearance. It was recently released by the prestigious “Krw_co” and is a recording that has been completely unknown until now. “Krw_co” recently announced the release of its vast soundboard collection spanning from 1980 to 2015. It will be released sequentially over the next few years, and this is the first release in that series.
[A raw, beautiful voice delivered straight from the source – simply delicious]
And what’s truly shocking is the sound. It’s a superb, direct-connection recording from a mixing console, completely devoid of the presence of the crowd’s cheers, with only the live performance and vocals bursting forth in their raw form. There’s no polishing like in official releases, nor any attempt to recreate the concert atmosphere like in FM broadcasts. The mix balance is completely rough and unprocessed. It’s truly a 100% pure leaked soundboard recording.
And that’s what makes it so great. If this were released as an official product, it would probably be criticized as being “too raw,” but for a jaded soundboard enthusiast, that’s pure bliss. The sense of unity is incredible, as if the band is inside your skull, and the synchronization is amazing, as if your whole body is integrated into the PA system. Moreover, the mix on this album has a balance where all the instruments compete to come to the forefront, while the vocals trample over them all. It’s a vocal album where you can fully appreciate that deep British voice.
[A solo performance different from BAD COMPANY, featuring rare tracks]
This powerful soundboard captures a solo stage with a repertoire that would be unthinkable in BAD COMPANY. Let’s take a look at the full set here.
●BAD COMPANY (8 songs)
– Bad Company: Can’t Get Enough / Bad Company
– Straight Shooter: Feel Like Makin’ Love / Shooting Star
– Run With The Pack: Live For The Music / Run With The Pack
– Others: Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy / Burnin’ Sky
●Others (6 songs)
– FREE: Mr. Big (★) / All Right Now
– THE FIRM: Tear Down The Walls (★)
– Covers: I Thank You (★: Sam & Dave) / Born Under A Bad Sign (BOOKER T. & THE MG’S) / Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix)
*Note: Songs marked with “★” have not been covered by BAD COMPANY.
…And that’s how it is. Centered around BAD COMPANY’s signature songs, it also features rare tracks unique to his solo career, such as FREE’s “Mr. Big” and THE FIRM’s “Tear Down The Walls.” Furthermore, it exudes the love for roots music that he showed on “THE ROYAL SESSIONS,” with tracks like Sam & Dave’s “I Thank You” and the blues standard “Born Under A Bad Sign.” It’s a profound selection of great songs that focuses even more intensely on Rodgers’ personal tastes.
This is a completely new soundboard recording, previously unknown even to the public. The raw, unadulterated sound, directly from the mixing console, allows you to fully appreciate one of the greatest vocalists in rock history. This is a shocking album that will leave you eagerly anticipating further discoveries. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
