★UPGRADE & LONGER!!!
The 1975 Melbourne Mayers Bowl concert remains an invaluable source of material that perfectly captures Wings’ performance. This is because not only was it recorded for television broadcast, but a soundboard recording of the PA output was also provided for radio broadcast, demonstrating the fortunate circumstances surrounding its capture. The soundboard recording, in particular, is mono but boasts exceptionally clear sound quality, making it a renowned recording that has been released since the days of analog LPs.
The definitive version of this renowned recording was released as the long-sold-out masterpiece, “FLY SOUTH SOUNDBOARD HIGHLIGHTS: ALTERNATE MONO MIX.” While the sound quality was undeniably excellent, as the “HIGHLIGHTS” label suggests, the fact that it was edited for radio broadcast meant it was an incomplete live recording, which was a minor flaw. The outstanding sound quality more than compensated for this, making it a bestseller, but there were certainly still some issues to address.
As I mentioned earlier, there was a method of using audio from the video to fill in the missing songs, but at the time, we deliberately didn’t try it due to the difference in sound quality, which is why “HIGHLIGHTS” was released using only the radio soundboard.
Six years have passed since then, and instead of simply re-releasing ‘FLY SOUTH SOUNDBOARD HIGHLIGHTS: ALTERNATE MONO MIX’, a Wings classic from ’75, they’ve finally released the long-awaited complete version!
Naturally, songs missing from the radio soundboard, such as “Little Woman Love / C Moon” and “Picasso’s Last Words (Drink To Me),” have been supplemented with audio from the video footage. Moreover, it’s not just a simple supplement; by using audio from the master version of the U-matic videotape, the highest sound quality to date has been achieved, while still including all the songs from the live performance. Among them, “Junior’s Farm,” the highlight of this tour, is also included this time.
On the contrary, by supplementing the cuts between songs, such as those seen in “Magneto and Titanium Man” and “Listen to What the Man Said,” with U-matic video audio, even the non-performance parts are included in longer versions. While the previous version ended as soon as the performance finished, this time, it even includes the moment when Paul reappears to thank the audience, making it a truly complete version.
Even with just these improvements, the re-release is worthy of significant enhancements, but it’s now 2026. This time, by using AI demixing technology, we’ve transformed the mono audio of both radio and video into stereo. By applying demixing, which has already yielded great results with releases by Oasis and The Who, to the Melbourne audio, the already easy-to-listen-to audio has become even clearer and more stereo!
Each instrument is beautifully separated and spread out to the left and right, so anyone who has never heard Melbourne before would probably listen to it and think it was originally recorded in stereo. The natural finish of this demix is a major achievement of this release, but for example, being able to clearly hear Jimmy’s guitar part in “Live and Let Die” is so impressive it gives you goosebumps.
Not only has stereo sound been achieved, but the demixing process has also mitigated the differences between the radio and video audio, even though they are both using the same soundboard recording. As a result, Melbourne ’75 boasts an incredible level of perfection—a natural, full-length stereo sound that is on a completely different level than simply being filled in—and has been literally reborn. Enjoy to your heart’s content this complete soundboard Melbourne recording, which has an otherworldly level of perfection that goes beyond simply being a “complete version” or “stereo-converted”!
