★ “Brad Gillis Tribute”! The longest and highest quality master recording from the original broadcast!

Two iconic soundboard recordings symbolizing the fleeting Brad Gillis era are being reissued. Two titles will be released simultaneously on pressed CDs, permanently preserving the top-notch sound produced by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”!

This is the first of two works released simultaneously. It is a stereo soundboard recording of the “April 28, 1982 Memphis concert”. During his Brad Pitt era, he did not leave behind any studio works, but his live works were abundant. Including official and unofficial releases, there are known as “three masterpieces”. This is one of them. Let’s take a look back at those three masterpieces here.

● April 28 Memphis concert [This work]
A full live album of the “DIARY OF A MADMAN Tour”. Of the three masterpieces, it is the only soundboard recording that is not officially related.
■ June 25 Irvine concert
Official video version “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL”. A multi-camera pro-shot of the “DIARY OF A MADMAN Tour”. There are various theories about the date of the Irvine concert, and the official credit is “June 12”.
■The official live album version of the New York performance on September 26th/27th
, “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL,” and its source, the leaked soundboard “COMPLETE RITZ 1982.” A soundboard of a special performance featuring all BLACK SABBATH numbers.

[The Brad Pitt version of the Tribute is permanently preserved in the highest quality sound]
These are the three works. This work is the soundboard of the Memphis performance mentioned above. While the official live album “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL” was a special performance featuring all BLACK SABBATH numbers, this work is a full soundboard of the “DIARY OF A MADMAN Tour,” which also includes famous songs from the Randy Rhoads era. It is a symbolic record of the Brad Pitt era, which could be called the “Gillis version of the Tribute.” So, let’s take a look at the overview of their activities at the time and confirm the show’s position.

・January 1st – March 18th: North America #1 (44 shows)
《Randy dies March 19th → Bernie Tormé joins》

・August 1st – 8th: North America #3 (3 shows)
《Don Airey leaves》
・September 26th + 27th: Official ‘SPEAK OF THE DEVIL’

《Brad & Pete leave → Jake & Don Costa join》

This is Ozzy Osbourne in 1982, working with Brad. This Memphis performance was the 12th show of “North America #2b,” just two weeks after Brad joined the band. It was a concert that took place about two months before the Irvine performance, for which the official video footage was filmed.

This show is also known for being broadcast on RKO Radio Network’s famous program “CAPTURED LIVE!”, and has long been a classic that has spawned countless re-releases. The source for this release is the best master, boasting the longest length and highest sound quality among the broadcast masters. It includes the opening and ending of the program, and is the complete version without any fade-outs from commercials. The sound is already “official quality” at the time of broadcast mastering, but “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has further corrected pitch and phase deviations down to 1/1000th of a second, and has performed balance adjustments through frequency analysis and noise processing for each frequency band. The result is a sound that maximizes naturalness while being pushed to the “pinnacle of the needle tip”.

[A full show that dyes Randy’s legacy in Brad’s colors]
What is depicted with this ultimate sound is a full show that dyes Randy’s legacy in Brad’s colors. Let’s summarize here.

●Solo
Blizzard of Oz: Mr. Crowley / Crazy Train / Revelation (Mother Earth) / Steal Away (The Night) / Suicide Solution / Goodbye To Romance / I Don’t Know
・Diary of a Madman: Over The Mountain / Believer / Flying High Again
●BLACK SABBATH
・Paranoid: Iron Man / Paranoid
・Master of Reality: Children Of The Grave

…and so on. There aren’t any rare tracks, but that’s precisely why Brad’s individuality comes through. Guitarists after Zakk Wylde have deified Randy and tried to faithfully imitate him, but Brad was different. He was the same generation as Randy, and even though Randy had passed away, he hadn’t yet been deified. Moreover, Brad was a young man who was about to make his mark on the world. With his flashy style that makes extensive use of whammy bar, he boldly transforms Randy’s classics into his own. In this modern age, where Randy’s legacy is absolute, his individuality resonates all the more refreshingly.

Brad Gillis, who took over after Randy’s death and blazed through a fleeting six months, is the inspiration for this iconic soundboard recording. This recording, a pinnacle of sound refined to the extreme by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” from the original broadcast master, will be permanently preserved. Combined with the simultaneously released “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL Complete Ritz 1982,” this completes the Brad Gillis era live archive. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
