　Randy Rhoads’ legendary final soundboard album, “KALAMAZOO 1982,” was released in the fall of 2020 and quickly sold out and went out of print. In response to popular demand, we’ve decided to restock it as a second pressing!

　This work, which shocked enthusiasts worldwide, features the “Kalamazoo Performance on February 9, 1982.” It’s a stereo soundboard recording made one month and 10 days before the tragic plane crash. This soundboard is a long-standing broadcast source, but this is its latest excavation. It’s a digital upgrade from the first generation copy. Before we get into the quality, let’s first look at the show’s position. The Randy era was a time of intense member changes, so let’s take a look back at that journey.

Randy Rhoads passed away on March 19th.

　This is the journey Randy and Ozzy walked together. The Kalamazoo performance in this work was the 21st performance of “North America #2b,” the last concert before his death. This work is the highest peak update of the stereo soundboard recorded at such a show, and the upgrade covers both length and sound. First of all, the length is undoubtedly the longest ever. In fact, there are already longer releases than this one, but that’s because the pitch is out of sync. Of course, the pitch of this work is just right, and if the opening “Diary of a Madman” is longer than the previous releases, there is no fade-out at the end of the performance. This is the longest recording of the performance on that day.

　And the sound. This is also the best ever. It’s like the previous version, which is different from the “official” radio air check, but the crisp clarity is incomparable. The previous master had a muffled bass and a harsh hiss, but this work has greatly improved these weak points. The crisp distortion of the high notes is also much clearer.

　This upgraded sound depicts Randy’s final passionate performance, recorded via line recording. While I would normally analyze the set, Randy’s time was largely based on “TRIBUTE,” and the only valuable track missing from it was “Over the Mountain.” This time, let’s change things up and organize the Randy-era soundboard collection.

In fact, due to the lack of progress in uncovering the official “OZZY LIVE” album, I can’t say for sure that the above is comprehensive, but it’s probably complete. As you can see from the above schedule, there are only two soundboards from 1982 since Don Airey joined, and this is the last one.

　What’s more, this soundboard boasts vibrant keyboards and a delightfully vibrant guitar mix. While the overall mix is close to mono, the stereo effect is dramatically enhanced during the solos, the intro to “Crazy Train,” and the subtle guitar licks—the guitars’ signature riffs—and the wide panning makes the sound jump from side to side (perhaps even overdubbing in some places!?). It’s so dynamic that it’s hard to call it “official quality,” but the sheer power of the sound is simply exhilarating. The sound on this album is clearer and sharper than previous releases, making it a truly uplifting live album that declares “Randy Rhoads is here!”

　Forty days after this release, Randy died tragically, becoming immortal. Each of his phrases still shines, and the Kalamazoo performance is his final line recording. This is a blissful live album, allowing his beautiful melodies to flow seamlessly into your brain. This new masterpiece, breaking the longest and most renowned record in history, is a special addition to the Ozzy & Randy soundboard collection.
