Description

Oasis provided the topic of Noel being attacked on stage (V Festival in Toronto on September 7th) from the first leg of the North American tour of the 2008-2009 tour accompanying the album “DIG OUT YOUR SOUL” that began in Seattle on August 26, 2008, but in October, when the tour resumed in Europe, the number of songs played increased and the tour entered a full-scale stage. The Electric Proms, which took place during this tour, is a festival organized by the BBC that has been held since 2006, and Oasis appeared as the headliner of the 2008 edition. Not only this Electric Proms, but also several performances have been broadcast in full length from the beginning of the tour, which is rare for them, so you can enjoy various performances with soundboard sound sources, but among them, this Electric Proms can be said to be the ultimate.

The biggest difference from their usual live shows is that it heavily features the 50-piece Crouch End Festival Chorus. The whole show can be said to be a masterpiece that fully demonstrates Oasis’s potential to shine when it matters most, but let’s focus on the unique aspects of this show and the more important points.

The Crouch End Festival Chorus joins in on six songs: “The Masterplan,” “I’m Outta Time,” “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back In Anger,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “I Am The Walrus.” Their power is already apparent in “The Masterplan,” and the powerful technique of recreating the string parts with human voices and their destructive power are overwhelming. The major highlight of this tour is the semi-acoustic arrangement of “Don’t Look Back In Anger” – “Falling Down” in a lowered key, a first for Oasis tours. The exquisitely arranged gospel-style chorus gets more and more exciting as the second half progresses, creating a fresh and moving “Oasis + audience + chorus” situation, which is one of the highlights of the tour.

In “I Am The Walrus,” Beethoven’s 9th “Ode to Joy” pops out in the outro. The highlight of the jam after the performance is the famous descending passage of the Beatles’ “Helter Skelter.” I can understand the feelings of the fans who have already concluded that this is a historic performance. Although the style is different, like “MTV Unplugged” in 1996, it has a strong element of a one-off live performance that will be enjoyed for a long time, making it such a wonderful live performance.

The bonus tracks start with the sound of the album’s TV commercial, followed by an interview with Liam on a North American radio show, and an acoustic version of “I’m Outta Time” with Gem and Andy. It also includes a Primal Scream remix of “The Shock Of The Lightning,” which has never been released on vinyl.

The Electric Proms material is from a different source than the previous album, and the sound quality has been improved to be clearer and more refined. The opening details are edited using a video source to create a more complete sound source. Please listen to the drumming of Chris Sharrock, who joined Oasis on this tour, which has brought Oasis’ live performance back to a level where you can enjoy it just by listening to the sound.

By the way, the Roundhouse was built in 1847 as a train hangar and later used as a gin warehouse, but was renovated in 1966 and has since been used as a venue for rock music and theater. This is the first time Oasis will perform here, but it is a place that has a connection to their beloved Beatles, and we immediately recall that Paul McCartney performed here at the “BBC Electric Proms” in 2007. It was also chosen as the venue for the Beatles’ first live performance in a long time in December 1968 and January 1969, and is also famous as the place where the “Carnival of Light” event was held in January 1967, where Paul McCartney led the recording of avant-garde songs by all the Beatles. The title of this work, “Carnival of Lightning”, is named after that event. A permanently preserved, solid pressing with a beautiful picture disc.
