Description
â– DISC ONE Filming Live for “Cigarettes & Alcohol”
â– DISC TWO First Appearance September 2, 1994 Stockholm Performance
Disc 1 contains a secret gig held on August 21, 1994 at Borderline in London for the filming of the “Cigarettes & Alcohol” music video. Contrary to the purpose, the song is not performed, but it is a very close-up live performance, as seen in the monochrome footage of the music video, and the atmosphere of a small club in the city, including a suspicious toilet scene, is irresistible. Perhaps with
the shots to be used in the music video in mind, the opening starts with an instrumental jam number. Oh, it looks like they’re going to play “Cigarettes & Alcohol” but the intro to “Supersonic” is played, but then it’s “Listen Up” that starts, which is a confusing moment. Even when “Listen Up” starts, phrases from “Supersonic” are mixed in, making it an unusual and unprecedented thing. Also unusual is the inclusion of not only “All The Young Dudes” but also Bowie’s “Changes” in the latter half of “Whatever.”
Disc 2 is a complete recording of the September 2, 1994 performance at Club Gino in Stockholm, Sweden. This was one day of the tour as part of the “Definitely Maybe Tour.” It is a high-quality DAT recording that begins with Liam’s languid greeting, “Hello Sweden,” and is a previously unreleased recording. A
wonderful two-disc set from the BAYSWATER label to dear Oasis fans. Disc 1 is a complete recording of the secret gig at Borderline, London on August 21, 1994, which was held for the filming of the “Cigarettes & Alcohol” music video, in unprecedented high quality. Disc 2 is a complete recording of a live performance at another small club, Gino, in Stockholm, Sweden, 10 days later on September 2, 1994, which is making its first appearance.
Noel apparently used to smoke Benson & Hedges cigarettes, but has now quit. The title “Temperance Movement” means something like abstinence from alcohol and smoking. Alcohol, tears, and rock and roll. Drink, drink, get drunk, drink. Tonight too, I’ll gulp down some alcohol and fall asleep. A beautiful picture disc, a sturdy, permanently preserved pressing.
