Renaissance Records is releasing a CD of a Molly Hatchet concert held on March 31, 1980 at the Royal Oak Theater in Royal Oak, Michigan, sometime between the release of the Jacksonville, Florida-based Southern rock band’s second and third albums. Danny Joe Brown, who would leave the band a few months later due to health problems and disagreements with the rest of the group, was still the lead singer, supported by the three guitarists Dave Hlubek, Steve Holland and Duane Roland and the rhythm section composed of Banner Thomas (bass) and Bruce Crump (drums): in this show, from their second album (double platinum in the USA) “Flirtin’ With Disaster” they propose the hit single that gives the album its name and seven other songs including the singles “Jukin’ City” and “It’s All Over Now” (cover of the classic by Bobby Womack and the Valentinos), while from their debut “Molly Hatchet” from 1978 come four songs including a version of “Dreams I’ll Never See” by the Allman Brothers Band; Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” completes the setlist.
