This is a complete supplementary version of the Fillmore West performances held four consecutive nights from April 9 to 12, 1970. The reason why it is a complete “supplementary” version and not a complete version is because only one performance from these four nights was officially released, so this is a complete version of the “other” performances. The official release was the performance on April 10, and the title is “Black Beauty,” which fans will know. At the time, most of Miles’ live performances were basically collage-like works edited by Teo Macero, but one of the selling points of this “Black Beauty” was that it was unedited and you could enjoy the original live performance as it was. However, critics such as the late Yasuki Nakayama criticized it as “not a very good performance,” and unfortunately it did not reach the position of a masterpiece among fans. However, as the sound sources from other days began to reach the ears of fans as collector’s items, the evaluation of this Fillmore West performance changed dramatically. Currently, all days of April 9, 11, and 12 have seen the light of day as soundboard sound sources and are known as masterpieces.
This item, which has appeared this time, is a complete recording of all days of the four consecutive nights of Fillmore West performances, excluding April 10 of “Black Beauty”, on three discs. Each performance has been remastered to the highest quality ever, and the excellent jacket that pays homage to “Black Beauty” is a must-have collection item that perfectly complements the official “Black Beauty”.
