★UPGRADE!!! The new Bon Tan best!
While “BONZO’S BIRTHDAY PARTY: BARRY GOLDSTEIN MASTER CASSETTES”, a shocking upgrade of the famous Bonzo’s “source 3” recording by Barry Goldstein, has been very well received, it is only natural that requests for a new best version of the soundboard on this day have flooded in.
So this week, Bonzo’s Birthday will be released primarily as an SBD. Of course, recreating the entire live performance requires the help of audience recordings. This SBD portion first appeared on the nostalgic “BONZO’S BIRTHDAY PRESENTS” at the end of the century, and full-length versions were later released on EV and Watchtower, but it was later revealed that it wasn’t a complete live recording. One major drawback is that Plant’s performance of “Happy Birthday Bonzo” is missing.
So, hybrid compilations of SBD and AUD have been released in various forms, but the 2017 edition, which was highly praised by enthusiasts at the time of its release, is considered the best of the many Bonn birthday items. Nearly 10 years have passed since its release, and the appearance of a new hybrid compilation best version has been eagerly awaited.
This time, the main SBD part will be the same best version as the 2017 version, but the phase, which was significantly shifted to the right from the beginning of the live performance to “Rain Song” on the previous version, has been corrected and adjusted so that it can be heard in a more stable state than ever before. This is a surprisingly overlooked problem, so if you listen with headphones, you can clearly feel the difference. Of course, the pitch is accurate throughout.
On the other hand, the Aud part is mainly based on the TMOQ source “source 1,” and since “Moby Dick” has no SBD recording, everything after that has to rely on Aud, so this time the long-standing staple TMOQ occupies the third disc. This is also an anchor stone for the Bonn release.
However, now that the Goldstein recording, also known as “source 3,” has undergone a dramatic upgrade, there’s no way not to take advantage of it. It was common practice to supplement the Aud recording at the beginning of the live performance, before the SBD recording had even begun, with the opening of “Rock and Roll.” However, the patch from the Goldstein recording, which had surpassed the sound quality of “source 2” due to the previous upgrade, made it easier to listen to than previous items. In fact, “source 2” was not used at all in this release!
In addition, the missing parts of the SBD from the TMOQ source are also extremely smooth, and the filling of “The Rain Song” in particular is so precise and smooth that it seems like it might be overlooked at first glance. The smooth finish of the Aud filling applied everywhere is also a stunning achievement that greatly differentiates it from items that have appeared in the past, and in fact it is the highlight of this release.
And the highlight is the finale, “Communication Breakdown,” which is only captured in the Goldstein recording. When this was released in 2017, it was accompanied by the annotation, “This song alone suffers from a disappointing drop in sound quality…” However, after the upgrade, it was surprisingly transformed to a state where “the sound quality does not deteriorate at all.”
Although it is the same Aud part, this time the old TMOQ source is the main focus, which has the advantage that you can enjoy the second half of the live performance with a different texture from the highly popular “BONZO’S BIRTHDAY PARTY: BARRY GOLDSTEIN MASTER CASSETTES”, and yet the main focus is SBD, making it a new Bontan best album compiled in an easy-to-listen-to format!
★Based on the classic Bontan SB, the missing parts are filled in appropriately with Aud sound sources!

The phase, which was significantly shifted to the right from the beginning to Rain in the previous version, has been improved.

Since SB goes all the way to heaven, Disc 3 is entirely Audio.
