Showgrounds, Sydney, Australia 22nd November 1980 PRO-SHOT
★UPGRADE & LONGER!!!
The “UNMASKED Tour” was the biggest singularity in KISS history. The iconic footage has been unexpectedly upgraded. The U-matic master, which was also the source of the official release, has been newly discovered. This is an urgent release!
[A historic pro shot that symbolizes a unique moment in KISS history]
This iconic footage was, of course, taken at the “Sydney performance on November 22, 1980.” It’s a multi-camera pro shot that surpasses the official. The “UNMASKED Tour” was the only tour performed under the “Ace Frehley/Eric Carr” system, but the show’s style itself was actually different from any other period. First, let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the band’s activities at the time.
●1980
{May 18: Peter Criss’ departure announced / 20th: “UNMASKED” released}
July 25: Warm-up shows
August 29–October 13: Europe (29 shows) November 8
–December 3: First visit to Oceania (11 shows) ←★here★
{Ace Frehley leaves}
This is KISS in 1980. KISS has focused on North America throughout their career, but the “UNMASKED Tour” only featured one warm-up due to declining popularity. The main tour was an unusual one, consisting of only “Europe” and “Oceania.” The latter in particular was their first performance in the Southern Hemisphere, and at the same time, the band’s incredible popularity was like a nuclear explosion. It became a gravitational singularity, becoming the most successful band in KISS’s history.
This week, the documentary works “KISSTORY 7 1980 PART 2 (Shades 2564)” and “KISSTORY 7 1980 PART 3 (Shades 2565)” that followed this historic event will also be released at the same time, but the symbol of this is the complete professional shot of the Sydney performance. This work is the ultimate masterpiece that updates the highest peak.
[The original U-matic master of the official version has been newly discovered]
Its true identity is the original U-matic master. “U-matic” is a video cassette standard developed by Sony in the late 1960s, and was used before Betamax and VHS. In fact, there were plans to release the Sydney footage to the public in 2004, but it was halted by KISS’s lawyers just before the release. It was an illusion. This work has been digitized from the U-matic master used at that time!
Collectors will know that the Sydney footage was made official in 2005’s “KISSOLOGY VOLUME TWO,” but in fact, that official version is also based on this U-matic master. However, the official version may have deteriorated during dubbing, making the outlines softer, and the details have been crushed due to the forcible highlighting. This work is a genuine “master quality version” before such deterioration occurred.
In addition to such beautiful visuals, it also updated the longest recording. Originally, the U-matic master cut off the video after “Love Gun,” skipping right up to Peter’s drum solo (which meant the official version, a degraded copy, was also missing). This work compensates for this with a different master. Furthermore, while the official version also included some gaps between songs, this work is uncut. As a result, while the official version was “91:37,” this work is recorded at “100:03,” more than eight minutes longer. Finally, let’s organize the full set.
*Note: If you are an avid collector, you may remember that our press DVD “SYDNEY 1980 (Zodiac 641)” also exceeded the official release, but this work has updated the longest / highest peak. The video is beautiful, and the recording time is about 1 minute 40 seconds longer. There is no time counter in the supplementary part of “Bass Solo / God Of Thunder”.

★A multi-camera pro shot of the “Sydney performance on November 22, 1980” that surpasses the official version. The U-matic master, which was also the source of the official version, has been newly excavated. This is a master quality version that is far more beautiful than the official version, which has been degraded by dubbing and digital processing. In addition, the bass solo/God Of Thunder, which was not included in the official version, has been supplemented, making it the longest in history, more than 8 minutes longer than the official version. This is an absolute work that symbolizes the “UNMASKED Tour,” which was also a singular point in KISS history.
