Speaking of the “DYNASTY Tour,” the press masterpieces “ATLANTA 1979 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 548)” and “DEFINITIVE LANDOVER 1979 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 744)” are also beloved classics, and together with this work, they form a soundboard trilogy. First, let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at the time and check their respective positions.

[The shocking original soundboard that shocked the whole world]
This is KISS from 1979. The “DYNASTY Tour” was the last tour with all four original members, and all of its performances were in North America. This Knoxville performance is right in the middle of the 38th performance out of 79 total. It’s later than “ATLANTA 1979” and “DEFINITIVE LANDOVER 1979,” making it the last great album of the golden age. This soundboard was also a shocking work that shocked the whole world. After all, the Knoxville performance was an uncharted live show where no audience recordings had been discovered until then, and even the set list was unknown. Now, we were able to experience it on a soundboard.
Of course, the quality was so transcendent that it shook the world. While the term “soundboard” can vary widely, this work is a direct-to-mix system. Unlike official live albums, which are polished as musical works, or FM broadcasts, which are optimized for home audio, this is an unprocessed mix for on-site PA use. Instead, the rawness is unmatched, revealing every nuance of the live performance, with its rich core. The guitar and bass are so clear that you can feel not only each individual note but even the angle of the pick hitting the strings. The drums are so clear that you can see everything from the vibration of the skin to the structure of the kit. Each element is beautifully separated with zero sense of space, even the electromagnetic noise of the amplifier stands out.
[The longest SBD of the “DYNASTY Tour,” which could be considered a sequel to ALIVE II]
In addition to such a transcendent sound, the biggest point of this work is its “length.” The other two works in the soundboard trilogy, “ATLANTA 1979” and “DEFINITIVE LANDOVER 1979,” were both single CDs, but this work is a two-disc set with a total length of over 86 minutes. Here, let’s compare the overwhelming number of songs to the above two works and get a feel for the volume.
●Before “ALIVE II” (11 songs)
・KISS: Firehouse/Black Diamond
・DESTROYER: King of the Night Time World/God Of Thunder (★)/Shout It Out Loud (★)/Detroit Rock City
・LOVE GUN: Christine Sixteen (★★)/Love Gun
・Other: Let Me Go, Rock ‘n’ Roll (★★)/Calling Dr. Love/Rock And Roll All Nite
●After 1978 (4 songs)
・Solo album: Move On/New York Groove
・DYNASTY: I Was Made for Lovin’ You/2,000 Man (★)
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are songs that could not be heard on “ATLANTA 1979 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 548)”. In particular, songs marked with “★★” are songs that could not be heard on “DEFINITIVE LANDOVER 1979 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 744)” either.
…And so it goes like this. There are documents that say that “Beth” was also performed on the day, so I’m not saying it was a “full” performance, but since there are no recordings of Oh and Jens, it’s possible that it wasn’t performed at all.
In any case, it includes all the other shows and is much longer than “ALIVE!” and “ALIVE II.” It also includes the classic songs from “ALIVE II” and beyond. Not only the new songs from “DYNASTY,” but also “Move On” and “New York Groove” from the 1978 solo albums are performed live by the four original KISS members.
It’s truly a “continuation of ALIVE II.” Officially, “ALIVE III” wasn’t produced until the 1990s, but in terms of content, this is the ultimate soundboard album worthy of being a sequel to the ALIVE series. Enjoy the delicious “DYNASTY Tour” with its precious songs on a superb soundboard that’s directly connected to your brain. This is a shocking two-disc set. Here’s a magnificent reprint!
★Soundboard recording of the “September 12, 1979 Knoxville performance.” A masterpiece reprinted from the original master unearthed in our shop. The liveliness of the mix table direct connection is incredible, and the core of the live performance is extremely thick, revealing even the subtleties of the subtleties. With a total recording time of over 86 minutes, it is an overwhelming soundboard, and it is no exaggeration to say that it is a sequel to “ALIVE II.” It is the longest absolute soundboard of the “DYNASTY Tour.”
