Description
The smash hit collection of hidden 70s footage, “KISSTORY,” has been announced as a sequel with two titles being released simultaneously this week!
This is the first of a two-part series, “1979 Part 1.” We’ve introduced three titles so far, but this week we’ll be looking at the “DYNASTY” era, which concludes the golden ’70s, with two titles released simultaneously on two discs. For those of you new to the series, let’s start with a quick overview of the series so far.
VOLUME ONE: 1974-1976 (until the Destroyer era)
VOLUME TWO: 1976 (until the Rock and Roll Over era)
VOLUME THREE: 1977/1978 (until the solo era)
*VOLUME FOUR: 1979 (Dynasty era part 1) ←★This work★
VOLUME FIVE: 1979 (Dynasty era part 2)
■DISC 1: Chapter 1-2 “TV Programs from the Solo Album Era (Two Types)”
This work begins with the TV program “PM Magazine” broadcast on January 8, 1979. 1979 is generally remembered as the “Year of DYNASTY,” but the album was released in May. At the start of the new year, Gene was still working on his solo album. Gene appears alone on this program, discussing his solo album.
The second video is a TV report on KISS’s first-ever convention (April 22nd). This is the ultimate version, transcribed from the master tapes of the Dutch TV station “Veronica’s Countdown.”
●DISC 1: Chapter 3-6 “DYNASTY Promotional Videos (3 Types)”
This is where the “DYNASTY” era begins. First up are three promotional videos for the album. These include TV commercials for the tour and album, as well as clips for “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” and “Sure Know Something.” The tour commercial has been digitized directly from a professionally filmed reel, and the two clips are also in the highest quality, having been transferred from 2-inch video masters.
●DISC 1: Chapter 7-10 “Footage from the early stages of ‘DYNASTY Tout’ (4 types)”
The album has also been released, and ‘DYNASTY Tout’ has finally begun! This is footage from the “June/July 1979” period. You can see a report program announcing the start of the tour, backstage interviews with children, and fragmentary but valuable live pro shots.
Particularly impressive is the final color film, “The Richfield Performance on July 19, 1979.” Not only is it valuable, but it’s also a masterpiece of footage that far surpasses VHS and captures the vivid historical feel that comes from being filmed in the audience
.
●DISC 2: Chapters 1-3 “TV Footage of MSG Performances (3 Types)”
DISC 2 features three types of footage from the “July 24th/25th, 1979 Madison Square Garden” performance. All are TV broadcast footage, including a TV commercial for the performance itself. The second is a TV special of the live show, a leaked master from the editing stage with a vivid time counter. This master-quality version is stunningly beautiful even to the digital age, and includes footage of the smoke-blowing guitar gimmick being tested, backstage footage, and three live songs.
The last three are also the same nesting, but this is the actual broadcast version of WABC TV’s “Euewitness Report.” This is also a leaked master with a time counter.
●DISC 2: Chapter 4-5 “August footage from the middle of “DYNASTY Tout” (2 types)”
Next are two types of footage from August, which was in the middle of the tour. One is an 8mm film of the “August 8, 1979 Buffalo performance.” The other is a TV report of the “August 14 Nashville performance.” Both have been transferred directly from the original master, and the latter also features valuable live pro shots.
●DISC 2: Chapter 6-7 “Jerry Lewis Charity Show (2 versions)” A
Labor Day charity show hosted by Jerry Lewis to support muscular dystrophy. Four people deliver messages and clips are shown. Two different versions are recorded from the charity reel.
●DISC 2: Chapters 8-10 “September footage from the middle of “DYNASTY Tout” (3 types)”
The final feature is three TV programs from September 1979, the halfway point of the tour. The first is the Dutch TV program “Veronica’s Countdown,” which reports on the “September 12, 1979 Knoxville performance.” In addition to live pro shots, you can see backstage interviews while applying makeup.
The last two are videos related to the “September 16, 1979 Louisville Performance,” a TV program that also reports on the performance. Two versions, a female reporter version and a male reporter version, are recorded from the original reel master.
This collection of 20 treasured videos spans two hours and four minutes. This is the first part of a two-part series on the “DYNASTY” era, which concludes the 70s KISS video history series, all of which are presented by top-notch, updated masters provided by researchers. Along with the previous “VOLUME ONE/TWO/THREE” and the simultaneously released sequel “VOLUME FIVE 1979 PART 2,” be sure to experience the golden 70s all at once!
