Description

wildly popular KISS treasure video series “KISSTORY” finally enters the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” era, heralding a new chapter for KISS!

This series is the hidden history of KISS. It’s a compilation of rare footage, including unknown TV appearances, forgotten commercials, rare interviews, and film footage, all compiled by the best masters. Up until now, nine titles have been archived, spanning the band’s golden age in the ’70s to the “The Elder” era, and this trilogy marks the final phase of the makeup era. Let’s start with the usual series list.

VOLUME 1-5: 1974-1979 (Golden Age)
VOLUME 6-8: 1980 (UNMASKED Era)
VOLUME 9: 1981/1982 (THE ELDER Era)
*VOLUME 10: 1982 (CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Era Part 1)
{December 1982: Vinnie Vincent officially joined}
*VOLUME 11: 1983 (CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Era Part 2) ←★THIS BOY★
*VOLUME 12: 1983 (CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Era Part 3)

As you can see, the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” era is a massive three-volume effort, including this one. The simultaneously released “KISSTORY 10 (Shades 2590)” traced the band up to Ace Frehley’s departure, but this album marks the official arrival of Vinnie Vincent. This is a collection of footage that also gives plenty of glimpses of the band’s new persona, “ANKH WARRIOR.” Let’s take a look at each piece individually.

●DISC 1: Chapter 1-5 “TV footage (5 types) from shortly after Vinnie joined the band
” The “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Tour” began at the end of 1982. The first section of this album is TV footage that aired in January 1983, early in the tour.

The numerous news footage and report programs announcing the new lineup and the start of the tour are all top-notch masters. The opening “WKYT-TV B-Roll” is an unused version that never aired, and “PM Magazine” is a leaked master from the editing stage with a vivid time code.

■DISC 1: Chapter 6-18 “Audience Shots from the Montreal Performance”
The core of DISC 1 is the audience shot from the “January 13, 1983 Montreal Performance,” the 11th performance of the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Tour.” Speaking of the 1980s, the spread of home video was a time when audience footage rapidly increased. At this point, KISS audience footage also appeared. Pure concert footage of the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Tour” is almost nonexistent, and this footage is almost the only one.

Moreover, the camerawork by the renowned Canadian taper is also excellent. The view from the top-down angle of the second floor seats offers a stunning, unobstructed view, with a sense of stability and careful zooming in on each member’s highlights. The rotating tank-shaped drum kit, the highlight of the show, is also perfect. In 1983, audience shots were not yet well established, but this incredible filming technique allows you to enjoy the precious scene for approximately 54 minutes.

■DISC 2: Chapter 1: “Pro Shots from the Montreal Performance”
The opening of DISC 2 replaces the footage from the “January 13, 1983 Montreal Performance.” This is a pro shot used on “Montreal News TV.” While it’s only a single camera for the opening “Creatures of the Night,” the view captured from in front of Gene’s standing position is powerful. Vinnie looks perfect in his “ANKH WARRIOR” makeup.

●DISC 2: Chapter 2 “Toronto Fan Interviews”
follows with interview footage filmed in Toronto on January 12, 1983. KISS was performing a concert in Quebec on that day, and fans appear in full makeup. You can also enjoy the scene of little Gene coughing up blood just like in the original, in master quality.

●DISC 2: Chapter 3-4 “Legendary Program ‘Night Flight’ (2 Versions)”
The main focus of DISC 2 is the legendary program “Night Flight,” which aired on January 17, 1983. Two versions have been included from the master: the highlights promotional commercial “Night Flight Take Off” and the actual broadcast “Yesterday and Today.”

This program features interviews with all the band members from 1983, interspersed with music videos and live pro shots from the past, including a pro shot from their Japan performance.

●DISC 3 “The Unedited Complete Version of ‘Night Flight'”
The final DISC 3 is also the legendary program “Night Flight.” However, this is not the broadcast version, but an unedited reel treasured by the “USA Network.”
The broadcast version on Disc 2 was approximately 48 minutes long, but this version is approximately 56 minutes long. It includes plenty of questions and jokes that were cut from the original broadcast. As expected from a broadcast master, the visuals are of exceptional quality.

This is the second installment of the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” series, a treasured video series featuring the finest masters provided by researchers. While later Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer followed the makeup styles of Ace and Peter, Vinnie and Eric Carr did not. The rare sight of the “ANKH WARRIOR” and “FOX” lined up side-by-side was only seen during the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” era. In some ways, this is the middle part of the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” series, the most valuable video collection in KISS history. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
